We just returned from Baros last night and still cannot believe we have just spent the past 9 nights in paradise!

Baros is a 20 min speadboat ride from Male airport - far away enough for you to get the desert island feel but not so far to travel after a long flight. The island is small enough to walk completely around in under 10 mins. We were looking for an intimate island and feel that Baros certainly provided that (the resort was also only at 60% capacity, so may have also had something to do with it) - the only time we saw other people was mainly at breakfast/dinner. The resort doesn't allow young children (can't remember whether it is under 6 or 12) and does not have an array of daily activities (other than the organised excursions ie, fishing/snorkeling/sunse/dolphin cruises etc... ). This suited us as all we wanted to do was unwind and relax.

We stayed in a Deluxe Villa which, whilst the entry level villa, was of exceptionally high standards. The outdoor bathroom was beautiful and the decking led straight onto the beach with our own allocated pair of sunbeds. The villa had pleanty of seating/wardrobe space and to be able to lie in bed in the morning and see the sea was something we'll never forget. Regardless of which villa type you go for, you will be surrounded in luxury and amazing views.

Half board proved to be benificial for us. Breakfast is an array of fresh fruits (prepared for you as you wait), cereals, pastries, cold meats, cheeses, eggs made to order, alongside the other hot breakfast items. A choice of fresh juices and champagne - what more could you need to start the day?! Dinner was a choice of 4 courses from an al a carte menu at the Lime Restaurant- which was varied enough for us (the dim sum starter was a firm favourite of ours!). The quality and quantity of food was amazing. If you were there for 2 weeks it may possibly be a bit repetitive - however, on half board you also had the option of eating at either the Lighthouse or Cayane Grill restaurants with a $45 contribution put towards it from the half board option. We didn't have dinner at either of these, but did have drinks at the Lighthouse lounge looking out over the sea - a great place to watch the sunset from. Sails bar also was a perfect place to have pre/post dinner drinks and served great cocktails!

Neither of us are divers, but the resort provide free snorkling equipment and we explored the house reef and managed to see an array of fish. We didn't use the spa, but it looked lovely and the therapies on offer sounded quite good.

We celebrated my birthday whilst we were there and the resort provided a complimentary in-villa champage breakfast on the morning of my birthday. Sitting on the decking overlooking the beach and sea was the best start to a birthday I've ever had! Later on in the afternoon a beautiful chocolate cake was also delivered to the villa for us to enjoy.

From the moment we had booked the trip I had my heart set on a sandbank dinner which we had booked before we arrived. However, upon arrival, we were given a choice of menus to choose from and we noticed that they also offered a sandbank picnic lunch. We decided to opt for this as we both felt that we would have more photo opportunities and wanted to experience it in daylight. We would definately recommend the sandbank dining option - it is once in a lifetime kind of experience and whilst pricey (approx $400), definately worth it!

Whilst Baros is a paradise island, it is the staff that truly make it a special place. Every member of staff that we encoutered was professional, yet friendly. I don't think we ever went past a member of staff who didn't smile and say hello. Baros was our first introduction to the Maldives what an introduction it was!! If you are looking for a honeymoon destination, or a quite/intimate and relaxing resort, then we'd definately recommend Baros. We will always have the fondest of memories of Baros and a special thanks to all the staff who helped make our holiday and my birthday so special. We will definately be returning!

What an island, as reviews say its a lovely place, great service, great food and totally
relaxing. The views, the sharks!, the fish, I thought we would be bored for two weeks,
we have a place in the South of France which we visit every five to six weeks for a week
at a time and the thought of no cooking or phones for two weeks was slightly scary.

Within days we were totally relaxed, lunch at the Satay bar, cocktails at the Lighthouse Bar (they knew our names and cocktails within days) food at the Limes was great as was the service and to top it all the degustation meals at the Lighthouse Restaurant
were a treat. As it was our 25th Wedding Aniversary we were treated to a bottle of champagne in the room, a candle lit dinner on the beach, a champagne breakfast on our deck and an anniversary cake!!! It is the small touches that make the differerence,

Yes very expensive (dont ask about the wine!) but what service and what nice staff.
Would we go again, most definately, I would not bother trying another island, once you have been to Baros theere is no need.

PS Please note the gent who mentioned lack of sand on the paths, the chaps from baros must read these sites,as they received a boat full of sand every day (14) that we were there and the paths now have a good 4" of sand...... Thanks!!

We had high expectations of Baros. We had read other Trip Advisor reviews, seen a Sunday Times Travel article singing its praises and then been advised by Kuoni that it was one of their best resorts. So we handed over £7000 to them for a week in a pool villa.
Without writing reams I can say that the island is truly stunning, it is well maintained, has very attentive staff, a good choice of very well presented food, a fantastic house reef, a friendly well-managed dive centre, a beautiful spa, really comfy bedrooms and if you can afford the pool villa, go for it!!

The service is excellent from the very first moment at the airport. The check in is truely "seamless". After the brief transfer by a speedboat (but long enough to take us far away from the airport), we were greeted at the island (literally on the picturesque arrival dock) by the assistant manager Julia. I am disabled and they brought a baloon-wheeled-buggy for me to move around the island on the sand. We had a reservation at a Baros Pool Villa and we were taken directly there, and assigned a personal "butler" Mode. At the villa, it turned out that they went even further in making my stay pleasurable, by installing wooden ramps at the entrance to the villa, and at the steps from the terrace to the beach (their carpenters just finished the job when we arrived). The pool villa (ours was #213) was incredible. It is a recent addition (they made only five of them, I believe}. It is rather expensive, but really worth the money. Everything: from the elegant toiletries in the bathroom, courtesy champage, fruit, Bose sound system, through "bean-bag loungers", etc, was excellent and it would be impossible to think of anything more to add there to make the stay nicer. I visited quite a few places, but Baros is really the top.
the staff is numerous but discreet and performs their duties almost unnoticeably.
Our personal attendant Mode was really a nice and helpful man. At the end we were seen off by Julia again. She is a very nice young lady, but she should smile more (she seems too serious, but maybe it's because she is still quite new to that resort).

This was our second trip to the Maldives having stayed at Anantara Dhigu/Naladhu in Sept 2008. The main reasons for choosing Baros were the proximity to Male, no kids & the great reviews on Trip Advisor. Baros provided everything we wanted for our honeymoon - superb accommodation, fine dining, first class service and total relaxation. We stayed in a Baros Villa and a Water Villa - both were wonderful. All the restaurants were excellent and we loved the cocktails and canapes in the Lighthouse at sunset. The house reef was perfect for snorkelling - so much to see without having to venture too far. All the staff at Baros are wonderful - very efficient and friendly.
Would highly recommend Baros to anyone looking for a relaxing luxury break in paradise.
