We stayed at Les Hauts de Gaubil over Easter as a large family party celebrating some significant milestones.
Fun was had by all, with ages ranging from 3 to 70 there was plenty to enjoy both at the house and in the local area. The most stunning aspect of this property how ever has to be its amazing views which can be enjoyed from all parts of the property.
Unfortunately the weather restricted the use of the pool so we would love to come back at a more appropriate time of year to ensure we can fully utilise all features of the property.
For large families wishing to holiday together in the French countryside look no further, this is your perfect destination.
This was our second trip to Les Haute de Gaubil and we couldn't have asked for more from the owners, the house and surrounding countryside.
From the moment you you drive up to the house, enter and explore, everything is just Wow.
We are a family aged from 24-78 and there is something for everyone here.
The living space is extremely comfortable and set on many levels, allowing you to take in the breathtaking views across the countryside, beautiful swimming pool and tennis courts.
Dining space is provided for very large parties inside and out and the indoor kitchen
Caters for every chefs needs.
The Bedrooms have varied decor, all really comfortable and clean.Bathrooms and facilities modern, clean and furnished with beautiful French products.
There is an outside kitchen with BBQ and pizza oven and table tennis table on the top patio.Equipment is available for all of the activities, everything is perfectly catered for.
Les Hauts de Gaubil simply has to be seen to be believed.
We stayed in this wonderful location exactly two years ago (August 2015 option not available on trip advisor) and have neglected to add my review to the many others.
With guests ranging from 4 to 70 years old it was a great choice. There was swimming, tennis etc for the active and relaxing with views to the Pyrenees for those who wanted to chill.
Carcassonne and Limoux were enchanting and the piano museum in Limoux was well worth a visit.
The rooms were well appointed but still family friendly and the Kitchen had everything you needed and more. We loved the Summer kitchen and BBQ
John was extremely helpful during the booking process and the check in and out was smooth.
We stayed here as a group of 9 for New Years Eve plus a few extra days. The house is in a great location, only 15 minutes from the airport and nearest supermarket. It's got lovely modern bathrooms and comfortable beds. The lounge is a great area for relaxing, and there's a large table to fit everyone around for dinner. We mainly cooked at the house which was very easy to do. It's perfect for large families or a group of friends to get away for a relaxing break. There are lots of lovely French towns to visit nearby; carassonne & Limoux both are very beautiful. We went to a great restaurant in Carcassonne called le clos de framboisiers in Carcassonne, it is Michelin rated and very good value for money. Overall, I would definitely go back to les hauts de Gaubil, we will miss waking up every morning to the views across the French landscape!
Beautiful house with a stunning pool, outside areas and incredible view of the Pyrenees. We went with a party of 10. The sixth bedroom has bunks, so just for children really. The house is superbly well equipped. We took boules, tennis rackets, fans etc - just don't bother. It is all there, and more. I have only one small gripe - the house details says that Domaine Michaud is an easy walk away - don't believe it - at least 40 minutes of mountain trails! Still, if that was all we could possible criticise we must have been really really hapy with the rest.

We stayed here for 2 weeks as a group of 10. The views, pool and accommodation were all stunning. The house is perfectly appointed with majestic views across the Pyrenees, we were lucky enough to see some fabulous pink sunsets. It has everything you need for a house that is quite remote, good quality wifi, Sky TV, amazing kitchen with double oven and American style fridge freezer, dishwasher etc. The three dining areas are perfect to chase the sun or shade whatever you prefer. The pool and covered outdoor seating area were a delight where most of us spent our time either relaxing in the sunshine, playing board games in the shade or swimming wonderful laps in the gorgeous pool.
A wonderful place for family and friends to gather. Remote enough to really relax but close to Limoux and the city of Carcassonne to venture out if you fancy it.
We had a memorable week here with my mother, sister, 3 adult children and partners to celebrate my mother's 90th birthday. There was something for everyone. My mother and sister watched, Edwardian style, from the shaded pergola above the tennis court cheering on the young players sweating it out in the summer heat. There was a lot of lazing by the beautiful pool contemplating the stunning view of the Pyrenees and long languid meals in one of the 3 eating venues.
No one showed much inclination to move - the young really enjoying the peace and space after their hectic lives in the city- but when we did the owners recommendations were excellent and we had a memorable visit to a family vineyard and some good meals in Carcassonne although found the old city terribly over touristed - a real relief to return to Les Hauts de Gaubil.
Do note .....this is not a boutique hotel, rather a family home of character, full of books, pictures and family memorabilia with the usual signs of a well loved and used family home shared with others. How amazing to leave a larder full of items for general use! My sister and I did a bit of a sort out in our attempt to find a pepper mill - the only item that seemed to be missing. The bread oven needs an expert as my son's attempts at pizza making ended up in the 2 good kitchen ovens as they failed to get the former hot enough. Otherwise everything was there and worked.
