“Fantastic location and views”
Reviewed July 6, 2014

Enjoyed a lovely evening here on honeymoon.
The Dutch family who own and run the place are really kind and welcoming and very knowledgeable about the area and speak excellent English.
We had 4 courses which were delicious and the surprise concept was good fun.
Approx. 80 euros for food, aperitif and a bottle of wine.
The views are stunning and they made us feel very special and welcomed.

“Excellent food, caring host, perfect views: a special place”
Reviewed July 1, 2014

We stayed at Domaine Michaud for four nights and ate in every night to enjoy Jolanda’s oustanding cooking. Having given details of likes and dislikes allergies etc every course was a delicious surprise. My husband had secretly booked the entire chateau for two of the nights so that friends and family could join us for my birthday – which was fabulous.
Specially wonderful dishes were the duck confit with olive mash, the parmesan crusted John Dory, a fabulous raw vegetable salad with herby cream cheese, the 'TiraMichaud' dessert and the piece de resistance was my fabulous birthday cake created by budding chef Sando.
Only now reading other reviews do I find that lots of others seem to have enjoyed special birthdays at Domaine Michaud – from the excellent caring service we received I felt I was the only one – very special indeed!
Veggie point: one of our friends was vegetarian and Jolanda came up with some wonderful vegetarian dishes – which is a definite plus for travelling veggies in France!
Looking forward to a return visit.

“Just perfect”
Reviewed March 17, 2014

We booked for a suprise dinner in this Table d'Hôtes expecting to have a nice, regional meal.

When we arrived at the country house (which was beautifully decorated, around a 2mx2m fireplace) we were welcomed by Jolanda, who was the perfect host during the entire dinner.

The table was set just for us in the corner of the living room with gorgeous views of the countryside and the city of Carcassone at night, and the 4-course meal was just overwhelming... Perfectly cooked and presented, in one of the most intimate and confortable ambiances I have been.

The biggest surprise came when we were introduced to the Chef, Jolanda's 16 year old son, who had prepared the entire dinner with her advice as he studies in an Ecole de Cuisine in the region.

To summarize, one of the meals in my life. We will come back, but to stay there the whole weekend.

“A Wonderful Experience”
Reviewed November 21, 2013

I found this restaurant to be “Excellent” because of the food, service and the setting at the price (29.5E). We actually stayed at this B&B and although we had not planned it, we were so pleased with our first meal, we decided to eat there the second night. We particularly enjoyed the duck confit.

The Danens (the delightful and capable Jolanda and Fred whom we did not meet) are a Dutch couple who decided to make a dramatic lifestyle change several years ago and purchased a large property in Languedoc Roussillon as a B&B. The elevated setting has a suburb view of the old Cité of Carcassonne and the Pyrenees in the distance and is a restful oasis from the very touristy Cité. Madame cooks and oversees the rooms while Monsieur has been working to upgrade the property.

While not French or a trained chef, Jolanda is an excellent cook who served up several complex dishes that rival some of those in very good French restaurants in Paris. She serves a set menu of selected dishes that she does well and sticks to those that are commonly acceptable (no sweetbreads). She will ask you in advance about food allergies or anything you cannot tolerate. Being Dutch her English is very good as you might expect. We were lucky because we were one of two diners the first night and only diners the second night so we got a superior level of service.

We had a wonderful dining experience and would gladly return.

“First-class food cooked and served by a delightul host”
Reviewed October 14, 2013

My girlfriend and I ate here in October 2013. We were warmly welcomed by Yolanda, who showed us to our table in the farmhouse's dining room and proceeded to serve up a delicious four-course meal that she prepared in the kitchen next door. She took time to explain all the dishes and we spent some time chatting with her after service - she's a truly wonderful host and the setting is fantastic. We washed down our dinner with a bottle of red wine produced by the winery next door and the bill came to under €90 which we felt was good value.

As an aside, we left some money by accident and received an email straight away to let us know our mistake so that we could return the next day to collect it.
