This is a place that defines what the Caribbean should be. With the quiet beach in a far away place from crowds. Lance Aux Epines is our dream vacation spot. Tim was very helpful to get us situated in the Kestrel apartment with it's nicely appointed kitchen, huge dining room and living room and two very nice bedrooms. We felt right at home and spent a lot of time here reading and relaxing. Outside, the grounds are immaculately kept with a few covered areas to lie out and read. Lance Aux Epines has one of the best beaches in Grenada with kayaks and even a sailboat for use. We tried the kayaks for a few hours and had fun with a workout. The pool was great as it is the Caribbean. You cannot beat that! The staff was very friendly and helpful. They have a BBQ on one night and we sat with them and talked about everything including a fundraiser they were very proud of. We also spent time in the game room playing pool, Foosball and watching TV. The rooms do not have televison and that is as it should be. We understand they tried TVs once but the noise was a problem for the guests since the screened windows remain open.
Meals were the most fun. We walked everywhere, mostly to the Prickly Bay Marina and watched the owner build a band pavilion in the few days we were there. It was nice to watch as we had very nice meals there along with "Prickly" the resident cat.
A hike in the other direction for dinner was the Red Crab restaurant. A little more pricey but well worth it.
One day we decided to hike what we thought was a kilometer away. It turned out to be 8 kilometers since we misread the map. as we hiked in the hot sun, we jokingly referred to it as the "Butan Death March" and enjoyed the adventure walk. Sometimes, the trip is as much fun as the destination. After a little more than an hour, we ended up at the True Blue Bay Restaurant, near St. Georges University. Great food and nice folks as well.

Room Tip: Though they are not really bad, mosquitoes are on the island. Bring your mosquito repellent. We tried the citronella since it smells nice but that did not work well. I suggest DEET.

We spend a week in Gaulin cottage in June. (A Gaulin is a bird, in keeping with the bird name scheme, but I couldn't find much info on what one actually is.) We got a package from Caribbean Sun which included a rental car, LAE Cottage and scuba diving.

It is not a luxury place but very nice & clean, decently equipped kitchen, large screened room facing the beach 75 away with nothing in between but lawn and sand. The beach would be great for kids. Locals use it, which I like to see - I hate being in an enclave of tourists! There is parking for one vehicle per cottage. The staff was very friendly and helpful, especially in getting the small Hobie Cat out into the water (though sailing was a bit challenging with all the yachts moored in the bay). There is AC in the two bedrooms, which proved to be needed in June. I usually try to avoid AC and acclimate to the local conditions, but that didn't prove to be possible.

We did some diving with ScubaTech, a couple minutes' walk down the beach, and that was quite nice too. Gaulin has a back door with a rinse sink and clothesline outside (handy for swimwear and diving gear) and the staff will even do a small amount of laundry at no additional charge. Lastly, on a couple of occasions the early-rising grounds guy gave us a ripe mango or two from the tree right outside the back door!

My one small quibble might be that the internet was a bit flaky. Each cottage has its own wireless router, and a staff member worked on ours, but the connection was still not always reliable. I've often found internet to be spotty on the islands, so no big deal.

Room Tip: They all seem pretty nice, and are spaced so all face the beach.

We had a female 1st cousins reunion in beautiful Grenada. Four of us shared Frigate Cottage at Lance Aux Epines Cottages which is fully furnished and has every thing one will need including a swizzle stick ....something I have not seen since living in Barbados for the past 40 years. The cottage was very comfortable with our every need and our housekeeper Eva looked after us very well and kept our cottage very clean. The Manager and his office staff were equally efficient, friendly and hospitable and made us feel very much at home. The cottage was set among beautiful gardens and a very nice beach. Everything worked in that cottage for us. This property is quiet, serene and so relaxing. We will certainly recommend it to others and will return when there is another opportunity for us. Thanks Tim and your staff for a wonderful time.

What a great find these cottages are. We stayed in Kite apartment and it had everything you could possibly want for a self-catering holiday. The apartment was spacious with a full kitchen and large living area. The location is superb, right on LAE beach with sun loungers scattered around the well tended garden. The free Wi-Fi was much appreciated especially as I have stayed in 5* hotels that have the nerve to charge for it despite their hefty room rates.

There are a few restaurants a 10 minute walk away but hiring a car is really the best way to see the island. Pre-arrival, the staff offered to arrange an airport transfer but its not necessary as there are plenty of taxis at the airport. All of the staff we encountered were unfailingly friendly and helpful. I would recommend LAE Cottages to independent travellers who enjoy peace and quiet. A lovely place.
