“Lovely Location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 12, 2014

We stayed for 2 nights on a package offer. Check in was quick and efficient, staff friendly. On arrival there was a nicely chilled bottle of Prosseco in the room. We had a superior twin room, a nice size on the ground floor overlooking the river and watermeadow. a lovely view, cows grazing and ducks and moorhens in the water. Only a 10 minute walk from the train station and the town centre but a very peaceful location.
We had dinner in the restaurant which we thoroughly enjoyed, nicely presented and a good choice from the menu. Service was a bit slow but we were in no hurry, a nice relaxing meal . We had drinks on the roof terrace afterwards and watched the sun go down, marvellous!
Breakfast both mornings was good.
Dinner on the second night was not quite so nice, it was a Friday night and they were very busy. I had onion soup for a starter which was very salty and unappetising. I had grilled salmon for main ,which was great but far too much dressing on the salad which made it a bit greasy.
Lots of places to visit in the area, we went to Gainsboroughs house which is well worth a visit. We also had a trip to Lavenham which was a delightful place and the Guildhall there is interesting to visit. We had some lovely walks from the hotel , across the meadow and followed the walk along the old railway track bed.
Can thoroughly recommend this hotel, all staff very helpful and friendly. An interesting building, complete with water wheel !

Room Tip: Room overlooking the water meadow, very peaceful at night and lovely view

We stayed at this hotel for a friends wedding, before arrival I rang the hotel to find the location of the wedding venue nearby. The receptionist was very helpful and arranged for a taxi to be ready for us upon our arrival and stated that our room was ready so could check-in at 1pm.
We arrived at 1pm, where we followed signs to the hotel car park, which was already full, so we had to find parking on the street (we found the last space on the street).
upon checking in, we went up to our room, which was a Superior Double, there was no wow factor for an upgraded room, but was clean and functional. I believe the difference is that the room is a little larger, after seeing a double being cleaned later on. The bedroom itself was nice, with a lovely view over the river, however the bathroom was a little tired and didn't live up to the standard of the bedroom, was clean though. The bed was comfortable, however I was woken up many times throughout the night and early morning by doors banging and what sounded like the water system working. I appreciate the sound of banging is down to guests being considerate, however some dampening on doors is required to assist.
Breakfast was a buffet cooked breakfast which was nice, with a selection of fresh fruit and cereals.
Overall stay was enjoyable with a few minor issues, 4/5.

As we looked out our window we felt like we were viewing a Gainsborough or Constable painting! This is a delightful hotel literally sitting on the river Stour. Our room was in the "new" wing, was very comfortable and clean and had the river running below it. We enjoyed a drink and meal in the bar area - could not eat in the dining room that night due to a function but the same food was served in the bar - and a delicious breakfast the next morning. After our evening meal we walked along the river and back across the fields to the hotel. Very picturesque. All the staff were very helpful and friendly throughout our stay. Plenty of free on-site parking. Highly recommend this hotel if you are in the area.

This appears to be a very extended hotel in a lovely setting, on the riverside. I've stayed a couple of times, and the rooms naturally vary but are of good standard. Some overlook the river Stour, there is a terraced area to sit and eat or drink at and country walks.

I visit Suffolk 3 or 4 times a year. This is a fantastic location, the mill and water meadows are brilliant. The hotel is under new management and improved massively in recent years. The bar is brilliant and the beer well kept and selected. The breakfast was excellent and service was some of the best I have experienced. Room was spotless, everything worked. I would recommend it and I will stay again. Although I did not have tea in the restaurant, I wish I had and will try to next time. Fantastic place, one of the best

We stayed here on a voucher deal on a Saturday. What a beautiful place, excellent staff and wonderful food. From the moment we arrived the staff were friendly ,attentive and nothing seemed to be too much trouble. The room we had was clean with a lovely view over the meadow and a very comfortable bed.
As for the food, the afternoon tea was scrummy but the best was reserved for the evening meal which was absolutely delicious. Having lavished praise about the food to the staff the poor young chef was wheeled out to meet us . A very nice young man with a bright future.
All in all a lovely stay in a beautiful location.

Room Tip: Ask for a meadow view beside the river.

We booked a 2 day bed & breakfast break including a 3 course meal for both nights included in the amazing price of £198.00 for 2 people. The welcome was warm and friendly, all the staff were polite and very helpful. The sunset view from the terrace was magnificent. Our room was immaculate. The most surprising part of the visit was that we could choose anything from the menu for our 3 courses only paying for drinks or side orders. We cannot recommend this hotel more highly. We will be looking at their website for other hotels in the group and any special deals.

Room Tip: We had room 17 a large room with duel aspect windows, one over the terrace the other over a small ou...
