Stayed here for my fiance's birthday. The reception and bar area are lovely. They had the fire on which made it feel really festive. The water wheel is lovely and to get to our room we went through a corridor that was over the river, which was beautiful. The room was nice and clean and the staff were friendly. The breakfast was delicious. We really enjoyed our stay. There were a few little faults in that the towel rail wasn't fitted properly and kept falling off when you put towels on it. There were some hairs in the bath. Other than that it was really ace and I'd recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the area as it is in such a beatiful setting.

We took a short break through a very reasonable internet deal that included free afternoon tea. This was taken in the bar area, adjacent to a working waterwheel that was encased behind a large glass window. Unfortunately the young bar staff didn't seem to know about the deal and our order was only processed after a long wait. When it did arrive it was lovely, though there was one draughty area that we moved away from to ensure a comfortable area to take tea.
Our bedroom had recently been refurbished and was warm, well appointed and comfortable.
The restaurant provided good meals though the dining room manager on duty on Tuesday morning wasn't as attentive as the other staff and hadn't noticed that certain breakfast buffet trays and the supply of warm plates had run out. He didn't apologise for any wait as he was too busily engaged in conversation with a workman engaged on the refurbishment to notice, though, in fairness, his young assistant did convey apologies for our wait.
All other staff were friendly and helpful and the hotel occupies a very picturesque aspect adjacent to the water meadows.
This was the first time that we had stayed in Sudbury and it is a charming small town with a wealth of attractive architecture. We recommend a visit to the birthplace of Thomas Gainsborough in the town that houses a large collection of his paintings.

Excellent food, had dinner in the restaurant, good menu choice of 2 or three courses from £19.95 to 23.95. good service not hurried. Loads of bar area and terraces. Could not fault it. Special mention to Rogier Graves the general manager so attentive and helpful runs a tight ship.Well done. would recommend this hotel.Lastly a good focal point is the original working water mill encased in glass and still running.

Room Tip: Room 4 very large lovely soft bed ans all the nice bits.

Came here for lunch with 2 girlfriends and children in the summer to enjoy the views over the water meadows on the sun terrace - the meal was absolutely dire!!! The manager tripped out a rather weak and unsatisfactory excuse as to why we had experienced such poor food so I asked him to conduct a review of the kitchen and his procedures and write to me with a proper explanation. He duly did as I had requested and wrote back, also offering the 3 of us another meal 'on the house' to make amends.

We attended the other week with mixed feelings as to wether our confidence would be reinstated - we were not disappointed. The service was not a problem before as we found the staff to be very attentive but this time we felt especially well looked after; as if the return of our custom really did matter. As for the food - really very good; we all had soup to start which was absolutely delicious. I had fresh grilled sardines for main course and my 2 friends had the chicken kiev - all cooked fresh and served beautifully.

Well done The Mill - you have reinstated our confidence we shall look forward to seeing you again.

Stayed at this hotel for a Saturday meal with father-in-law. Rooms were ok, but beware that there is no lift in the listed building. Three flights of stairs according to staff, can be five according to me. Food was of adequate quality on Saturday night, but breakfast could better if all egg orders were freshly made. This was shown up when I had fried eggs from heated tray and wife ordered scrambled egg. Rubbery fried eggs, but outstanding freshly scrambled egg. The refurbishment has achieved a better cleaner look, but still an issue with parking. All staff were pleasant and attentive. For where it is just do not pay more than you have to.

I stayed here in November with my boyfriend for a one night stay. We stayed in one of the newly refurbished rooms which was decorated to a lovely standard and the bed the comfiest I've sleep in, in a hotel! We had dinner in the main restaurant which has beautiful decor and an amazing view of the old wheel that used to power the mill house, in working condition... Lovely to see a bit of history. The food was fantastic and the bar area had lovely cosy seating to relax with a glass of wine. Breakfast was a buffet self service and had so much to choose from, from cooked, cereals, fruit, yoghurt. The staff were attentive and friendly too. I would defiantly recommended a stay at The Mill Hotel.
