Previous reviews have mentioned the hotel car park (!), let me confirm it is tiny, and difficult to find, (when facing Sainsburys back entrance hotel car park is on the left). Entrance to it is very awkward as you are navigating through Sainsburys delivery area. I can understand why `Spoons` prefer you to use the store car park or the expensive short stay on the market square.
I'd like to confirm that it is used by staff, to the detriment of their customers.
Neverless, receptionist was very polite and helpful. The room ( facing the market square was lovely, one of the best we've been in. En-suite was also a delight, recently refurbished to a high standard.
Security is good with pass keys for enrty to bedroom corridors.
No lift I'm afraid, hard work climbing to the top floors!
Bar is at the back of the hotel, just past reception. I enjoyed the bar as it had atmosphere, it was wonderfully crafted and had lots of interesting pictures and info on the walls. Lounge area at the front (has no bar), looks out onto the square.
WIFI - poor reception. The best place is at the very far end of the bar where the router `sits`. Member of staff reliably informed me that the hotel is re-fitting wifi so that reception is better in all areas including bedrooms.
Ripon is a very historic town, has a beautiful Abbey (a must see), and importantly many pubs and restaurants. Recommend finding the One Eyed Rat (51 Allhallowgate, Ripon, North Yorkshire HG4 1LQ Tel.01765 607704) if you like a traditional pub, an interesting pub, with real fires and real ales. Locals provide much interest and are welcoming.
Eating - we ate at the Dragon Inn across the road. Meal was delicious, we did have to ask for the heater trays to keep our meal warm but they immediately obliged.
Banks are nearby.
Sainsburys is surprisingly large, very large, and has a downstairs, clothing, very impressed.
Important point, directions to the hotel given by website were accurate and easy to follow.
Would I recommend this hotel, definitely. I gave `sleep quality` as average as the Saturday night revellers were out and about till late in the morning, despite an almighty storm going on throughout the night. The town itself, yes most definitely.
