Location fantastic, our first time to ripon and could be more lovely little city to visit.
This is a really nice hotel, £69 per night is very acceptable price. Staff at reception were so friendly and warm, with good banter!
Double room was flawless, bed big, bathroom fab, digital telly and coffee/tea etc. Lovely view as well.
Breakfast in the pub downstairs was very very good. Can see why the food gets good reviews.
Pub very busy on a night but others in the area, can't couldn't hear a prep from 3rd floor.
Our radiator in room was a timed one and u could hear the clicking and couldn't get rid which was slightly annoying.
Only other downside is parking. Hotel has a small car park which had no room. Park in the Victoria cross long stay behind bus station.
Overall very impressed!

This was our first visit to The Unicorn - we decided to stay here en route up to Whitby. I like the Wetherspoon style of hotel - good facilities, central location, well looked after and usually a good pub underneath. We arrived at about 6.30pm and after having some difficulty parking the car, checked in with the usual courteous and informative service. The rooms were excellent (at just £51.75 per room per night), spacious and spotlessly clean. The pub downstairs was EXTREMELY busy - we had a real fight getting a table for four. It was apparently the popularity of the Friday Night Fish Night that was the cause of the 'problem' - whilst we did not eat at The Unicorn the fish did look exceptionally good. The pub was less busy as the night progressed, but unfortunately the earlier hoards had been very thirsty and the normal selection of five or six handpulled beers had been reduced to two............. no real problem. A good hotel, centrally located, well priced, and very popular. We shall return!

Room Tip: A room not overlooking the main square might be useful for light sleepers - lots of young kids do co...

We broke our journey in Ripon. For the first time we stopped in a Wetherspoon Hotel. Its situated in the Market square . Ripon is a very attractive town (city) well worth a visit in its own right. The accommodation is above a very busy pub.I couldn't hear it from the room.
The room was spotless and well equipped . The staff were excellent. Every member of staff we had dealings with were helpful, friendly and a credit to Wetherspoons.
Our room was on the 3rd floor there was no lift. I had no problems with that but people with mobility issues will have problems. We had our evening meal and breakfast at the hotel, which was good value but extra. The total cost for 2 people about £108 , that included a very good bottle of Shiraz. I think it was excellent value. A pleasurable experience. Well done. I will stay in a Wetherspoons hotel again...isn't it time for a loyalty card !

We stayed here overnight as we were attending the races. On seeing our room we were very pleased as it was lovely! The decor was very tasteful, and the room was cosy and spotlessly clean. The bed was very comfortable indeed, The bathroom which had both a shower and a bath was very smart. We were so impressed with the room we stayed in on the evening, just popping downstairs for our evening meal and taking a bottle of wine back to our room. The pub itself had a great atmosphere serving good food at a very reasonable cost. The staff were very polite and friendly A brilliant stay all round!!

Again an excellent hotel with a clean, comfortable room at an affordable price in a superb location. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The side room facing the church was very quiet: no problem with noise at all.

Parking in Sainsbury's car park is no problem and no real distance from the hotel. You will be very lucky to get a place in their small car park. Most parking in this old market square is in Sainsbury's.

Well done Wetherspoon's for these hotels.

We booked one night to explore Ripon and surrounding area while we has some time off work. We were very warmly welcomed and delighted with our room - large, immaculately clean, modern & tastefully decorated, much more than the 'basic' room we expected. The bathroom was modern and the cleanest hotel bathroom I think I've ever seen! The hospitality tray was very well stocked, including biscuits. The staff were fantastic, as we've always found Wetherspoon's staff to be. Yhere was an excellent selection of TV channels and the bed was huge with good quality bed linen. We've stayed in hotels 3 times the price and the bedding and level of comfort at the Unicorn was the best of all of them. A lot of hotels could learn from Wetherspoons. We ate in the pub downstairs and everything was well cooked, tasty, value for money and with excellent customer service. If staying, be aware that parking is a little distance away from the hotel beside the Sainsburys but it's still just a few minutes walk. We had a lovely stay and will definitely stay again.

Room Tip: We stayed mid week so it was quiet - our room was 303 so 3rd floor and it faced the market square...

Booked at the Unicorn for a couple of nights whilst we were in N Yorks. I wasn't expecting much to be honest but was very pleasantly surprised at the hotel. I'd asked for a quiet room at the last minute so when we got to the hotel were were offered the original, larger room we had originally been offered and the quiet room. Had a looked at them both, original room was huge with views over the market square but we opted for the smaller quiet room, which was lovely.
Staff were great all the way through, the hotel was clean and the rooms cleaned to a good standard. We ended up staying another night we enjoyed it so much.
