Owner description: Ripon Cathedral traces its history back to its foundation by St Wilfrid in 672AD. The Anglo-Saxon crypt of St Wilfrid's church remains and is open to visitors. Choral evensong takes place Tuesday to Friday at 6pm and Sundays at 5.30pm. Details of all services may be found on our website. We are open to visitors daily throughout the year and entry is free, though we rely on generous donations to continue this practice. Most of the building is wheelchair accessible with the exception of the Library and the Anglo-Saxon crypt. There is a touch-screen computer interpretation of the crypt at ground level for those unable to access it.
Useful Information: Wheelchair access

12th century Stone church. The patron saint is Wilfrid. There is a Saxon crypt which is rather fun to visit, and the Ripon Jewel - small gold roundel - was found near the catheral in 1976. It too is Saxon. Definitely worth a visit.

Each year on Christmas Eve at 11am the Cathedral Clergy put on an interactive Nativity Play. Children are encouraged to come dressed as Angels, Animals, Joseph or Mary etc. and are involved asd the Play develops. It lasts for one hour and is always enjoyed by Children, Parents and Grandparents.

Lovely to look round, plenty of atmosphere and lots of carvings on the pews by the mouseman - plenty to see.

The must be one of the most underrated sites of the North of England, A really impressive Cathedral with a wonderful sense of space and majesty. It is worth seeing in daylight as the lights in the Cathedral are a bit too subtle to allow you to read the information booklet easily. We can also see the setting of the building properly. Allow at least an hour for the visit.

Loved the cathedral. Great staff and an awe inspiring journey into Englands past. Do not miss this. We were impressed with the whole experience and went for the New Years Eve service which culminated in a fantastic firework display after a candle lit procession. It made our trip complete.
