In Ripon for a few hours with my husband and daughter and looking for somewhere to eat. We looked at several restaurants and the special menu of La Brasserie was the most appealing to us all. We were not disappointed. The goats cheese starter was well presented and delicious, as was the pate. Main courses of minute steak and a chicken pasta were tasty and filling. We debated having a dessert but were really too full to have this. Staff were very friendly and service good. My only small criticism was the lack of a drink list. We were dehydrated and had several jugs of water. Had there been a drinks list on the table we would have been tempted to have a drink along with the water.

Location is the big plus here, in the shadow of the cathedral and kitted out with a fair level of sophisticated glitz. Popped in for quick lunch, service prompt and attentive, one of the three of us opted for £9.99 two course fixe, garlic mushrooms and minute steak went down well. Black pudding, bacon and apple salad a good idea but would have been improved by warmer slices of quality pudding, panini a little light on the cheese. Only a flying visit and although there was nothing standout to stick in the imagination, good or bad, looks like a reliable choice for Ripon diners.

This is our 4th visit and we find it consistently good. Nice food, friendly service and the midweek early birds offer is excellent value for money. Starters, Mains and puds all delicious. We'lll be back!

TA ratings, good, site excellent, just by the cathedral. Staff friendly and efficient. Food- well.....Risotto was more like a pilaf and probably had been reheated. sausage and mash, tasty but gravy showing signs of reheating. Crab salad, dissapointing dressed crab, commercial cole slaw and awful tomatoes. In these days of freely available named varieties of tomato an awful shame. Perhaps there is not a great deal of competition in Ripon to explain the previous ratings, but lunch today was disappointing.
