“Had another lovely stay”
Reviewed October 4, 2012 via mobile

It has been a while since we have seen Linda, the owner of the Old Deanery and as usual we were made to feel very welcome. Our return visits are based on the ambiance of the hotel, the food, the friendly and efficient staff and the location which is right opposite Ripon Cathedral. We did see that there is some of the decor that needs attention and we wouldn't want to see such a lovely hotel start to look tired. We would not want this comment to put anyone off going and we will continue to recommend it to friends and family.

I put off my response while I pondered what I needed to do and want now to announce that work is finally in hand that means the breakfast room ceiling can be repaired so decoration can take place in there, completing the round up of the ground floor painting. Its like the Firth bridge though so I hope I don't give up! thanks for liking all the rest of what we offer and we hope to see you again!

I have stayed at the Old Deanery previously, and booked this trip with my partner for her birthday. We were welcomed very personally and the service throughout our stay was first class and very attentive. The room was large and a bit quirky, as you would expect from the building but there were lots of little touches to make our stay special. Nice Molton Brown toiletries too!
We chose to eat at the restaurant too and enjoyed a really excellent meal. The menu is creative and modern but beautifully cooked and presented. Big emphasis on local and seasonal produce.

Room Tip: The rooms are generally either facing the Cathedral or Gardens. The view to the cathedral is stunnin...

We stayed a few days at the Deanery whilst house hunting in the Yorkshire Dales, and it is a great place to unwind after a stressful day - relaxing atmosphere, good food, peaceful gardens and over the road from the Cathedral for spiritual recharging. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: All rooms have a great view - the cathedral at the front and a lovely garden at the back.

You got the most from your stay and I am glad the place worked its magic. I read your review of the Hornblower ceremony and encourage everybody to see him in action! Thank you!

The restaurant has to be one of the best in Yorkshire - a Michelin Star has to be on the way very soon. The quality of the rooms are very good and the finishing touches really make a differance. The service is friendly & welcoming. Overall a great place to stay for business or leisure but even if you don't stay the night and live in the north Yorkshire area you must go and eat at the Restaurant - it really is a hidden gem. Only a matter of time before it gets found by the masses!

It was good of you to say we deserve a Michelin star! In my dreams... but I'll settle for all of our guests enjoying the meal and the atmosphere here as much as you did. Thank you!

We stayed at The Deanery to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary. The service at the hotel is second to none; the staff were very polite and only too happy to assist. We arrived very early and our room wasn’t ready however; the young man on reception called housekeeping and asked them if they would prepare our room next. We also forgot to book a table in the restaurant for Sunday lunch (fully booked) once again with lots of effort from the staff they fitted us in. The food was excellent
The room was very clean, well presented and the bed was comfy. The en-suite had a beautiful slipper bath complete with a rain shower. This room (no.4) overlooked the beautiful garden and when the window is open you can hear the Cathedral bells.
The building its self is very old and has a lot of character, inside and out, and can understand why they host a lot of weddings. The Old Deanery is ‘one of a kind’ as is the owner Linda. We planned a day at the races and she tried to obtain 2for1 tickets.
We were looking for a relaxing weekend in a beautiful hotel with excellent food and good wine and that’s exactly what we got. Before leaving we booked a 2 nigh stay for New Years Eve and New Years day but this time in room 5 overlooking the Cathedral.

I am not sure if "one of a kind" is good but I am translating it to "unique!" and I guess we all are here... its a pleasure to entertain guests when they really connect with the place so roll on New Year's Eve, I say!

Stopped off for afternoon tea after visiting the Cathedral and was very impressed. The staff were very friendly and the service good.My friend had visited for lunch on a previous occasion and been very impressed. The building looks beautiful and it would be worth visiting Ripon again just to stay here .

We are so glad you enjoyed our afternoon tea because its a fairly new service for us and we love our shabby chic bone china and slightly quirky style. Many people don't even realise they can come in and just have a cup of tea so thanks for the praise. It gives us all a boost!

Visited the Old Deanery on Monday night for a meal with my husband and it was fantastic. The staff were very welcoming and the service very good. I had the duck, followed by the venison and then the cheese board, my husband had the salmon, followed by the coley and he finished off with the bakewell tart. You've never seen such clean plates being sent back. The food was very tasty and well presented. We would definately return when next in the area

Sorry this is one of a couple of reviews I thought I had responded to and I apologise...we are really pleased that you wholeheartedly approved of our restaurant and we would obviously love to welcome you again. We do have a new chef but the food is just as tasty.
