A very special hotel. It retains all the charm of a country house with tons of original features and friendly and willing staff to match. We were made to feel very welcome with just the right blend of formality and relaxation.
Our room (which was about half-way up the price range) was spacious and comfortable with stunning views acros the grounds. The complimentary drinks are a nice touch.
The dining room is a lovely space and the food terrific - and very good value.
The grounds are beautiful and tranquil, and the country house atmosphere is enhanced by the presence of guest's (generally very well behaved) dogs.
I was there to do a day-course at the cookery school which was brilliant, but be aware it's booked up months in advance so if you were visiting with that intent book the cookery school first.
Unsurprisingly there's no air-conditioning so the bedroom did get a bit warm on the (very warm) night we stayed.
The hotel is only about 15 minutes off the A1 so worth considering for an up-market stop-over if driving North/South.

Returned from Swinton Park today with a heavy heart! The only problem with this hotel is it is so difficult to leave! The rooms, toiletries, food, and most importantly the staff are oustanding. The grounds and gardens are stunning and it is probably one of the most relaxing places I have ever been to. The treatments are reasonably priced and very enjoyable, the spa with sauna and jacuzzi can be booked at no extra cost for 1 hour for your own exclusive use and the sense of being totally spoilt and pampered is difficult to give up.
The maitre d', Christophe and the sommelier, Gary deserve special mention although all the staff are friendly, professional and attentive. Having eaten in the superb restaurant every night, Christophe arranged a "menu suprise" for us and Gary expertly chose the wines to accompany this gastronomic delight.
I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough and would definitely stay there again, at the earliest opportunity.

Stayed at Swinton Park for four nights over the Easter holiday. Had an absolutely fantastic time. The staff were brilliant - nothing seems to be a problem they are all very attentative and seem to "go that extra mile". As for the castle well it is beautiful and the website and photos do not do it justice. We stayed in the Richmond suite which was very spacious with lovely "goodies" such as the Molton Brown products, slippers, dressing gown, gin and whiskey. The children even had a little bag of goodies!! Am already booked in for another visit in July.

Cannot praise Swinton Park enough!!!

We have just returned from a fabulous stay at this hotel. What can I tell you? As you turn into the drive you have to say 'WOW!'You'll see a gorgeous castle set in the most wonderful grounds. Our room was beautiful - full of thoughtful little touches such as fabulous Molton Brown toiletries to take home, whisky and gin courtesy of the hotel, a weather report covering our stay, even some alka selzer! The staff are welcoming and professional; the food is scrumptious; the atmosphere is relaxed with a hint of decadence. I would have to disagree with a previous reviewer who suggested it was not a good idea to stay if there was a wedding taking place - there was a wedding whilst we were there and we could hear no noise at all once we had gone up to our room. Book it now!!

The hotel is set in beautiful parkland with deer roaming around and lovely woodland walks around the lakes. The rooms are beautifully furnished and have an individual feel - no two are the same. The restaurant serves very good food although we preferred the more informal food served in the bar. The staff are absolutely charming with a lovely understated manner. They couldn't have been more helpful. Both my husband and I and our three children had an absolutely wonderful stay. I would strongly recommend the lastone therapy massage - bliss.

We just spent 3 nights in the York Suite at Swinton Park with our 8 month old daughter and it was fantastic. All the staff were really helpful and friendly, with no exceptions. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel at home and looked after. The kitchen deserve a special mention as they were great at preparing blended meals for the little one; although we had to chase them a couple of times as the food was later than we'd asked for.

We never ate at Samuels as we didn't want to leave our bundle alone in the room - although the hotel offers babysitting (book in advance) and a "baby-listening" service using the room telephone. So we made good use of room service, which got a bit boring after 3 days - the food was good, but a bit "rich" and we were craving beans on toast after 3 days!

The York Suite was perfect for us as the sitting room gave our daughter her own room to sleep in and we didn't have to walk through it (and disturb her) to get to our room - there's a corridor to the bedroom area. A bit pricey, but worth it.

The massage treatments were good and good value compared to other spa type places we've visited. The "spa" was a jacuzzi & sauna - not much more. The rest of the hotel is gorgeous. The grounds are also pretty impressive - great if you're "outdoorsy" - lots of walking, fishing and other stuff like that. The hotel is dog-friendly too apparently (not our own experience but other guests had dogs).

Overall, we'll definitely go again (and probably again and again!).
