“the Ripon Hornblower”
Reviewed October 10, 2013

the Ripon Hornblower is a fun attraction to watch, especially if you realise that the Hornblower has been doing this job for centuries. He blows his horn on four corners of a monument and then takes the time to tell you why he does it and tells you about the horn. It is always at nine PM and there are usually lots of people watching and asking questions. So try do be part of the crowd, it really is entertaining and of course it is part of our Ripon Tradition.

It's a fun experience, he's full of jokes, he knows the history and will give you a wooden lucky coin.

“Ancient tradition lives on in Ripon”
Reviewed September 13, 2013

Every night at 9 in the town square the Ripon Wakeman sounds his horn, an ancient tradition that feels very 'English' well worth experiencing and you might also be lucky to receive a lucky wooden penny. A simple, interactive event that has a certain charm and a good way to round off an evening in Ripon.

“Lots of fun”
Reviewed September 10, 2013

The Ripon night watchman blowing his shofar is an ongoing show for an average audience of 20-30 each and every night at 9PM sharp, a tradition that has been going on for over 1120 years without missing a night! The current watchman, a tall stately gentleman in his mid-70s, has been at it for 10 years and is funny and engaging with the onlookers. He alone is worth the price of admission which, actually, is free. If you're in Ripon in the evening, you must go see this quaint tradition played out.

This well worth going to see, we saw the deputy Horn Blower.
We had an amusing history lesson and found the Wakeman to be very interesting, it was much better than we expected.
Thank you.
