A great day for all the family, Its always a fun atmosphere. The title of garden racecourse of the north is a perfect description, there are plenty of places to eat and drink and there are days when there is plenty to keep the children entertained.

I have been an annual member at Ripon on and off since the early 1980s, and last season was the best ever.
There has obviously been a lot of money spent improving and upgrading the facilities, which makes race days a more enjoyable experience than it was in the 1980s. However, although it is a vast improvement, the annual members' bar is very small and does not serve a great range of drinks and does not serve anything to eat, which means that if you want a sandwich or even a chocolate bar you have to go out of the stand and into one of the other bars. Having said that, on the plus side you get a great view of the course from the members' balcony/terrace, and the other members are so friendly.
Others have mentioned inadequate staffing levels; this can be a problem at times, but one which I'm sure the management will take on board and rectify, hopefully.
Other things I should mention are that there is plenty of car parking, and if you fancy a sit down meal as part of your racing day out, then I can recommend the Members' restaurant. The racing's not bad either.
I have been to many racecourses over the years and I can recommend Ripon as one of the nicest around, oh, and their annual badge definitely represents excellent value.
I've penciled in 2014's fixture in my diary and am looking forward to next season.

Visited the course in Sept with party of 24 for our annual race trip to Yorkshire Racecourses.Although this is a very picturesque course we didn't find it as open and carefree as some of the others we've visited. Its quite difficult to see the horses actually racing until they come down the final 2 furlongs and flash by the winning post. There also seems to be an issue about taking drinks from the bars onto the viewing stands and this didn't seem to be consistent as we saw very many people walking about with drinks even though we were told we could'nt take our drinks outside.Hopefully this will be looked into and sorted before next season.

We have visited Ripon racecourse many times as it is beautiful and kept lovely and clean. However, on this occasion I did feel that the staffing levels needed looking at. The time it was taking to get served at the bar was a bit annoying especially when there clearly was not enough staff on. What we also found a little frustrating was attempting to have a bet on the upstairs tote as there was on older gentleman on his own who was obviously not used to running this and was causing very long queues to appear. This then caused people to miss out on being able to have a bet. It was also disappointing to see that a lot of the bookmakers at the course are now only allowing you to make a bet on the winner only as opposed to places. You do now have to question whether you do get value for money and a better price at the races?? It was a shame about these issues as it does make for a lovely day out at Ripon!
