We stayed for 4 nights in Early January in a riverside lodge. We were met by the owner who gave us a tour of the lodge & some useful tips on the local area eating out etc.
The lodge was as described on the hoseasons website. Very spacious 2 bedrooms both ensuite. Spacious lounge area & well equipped kitchen.
The outside area had a very large decked area with a large hot tub with lovely riverside views.
The location is ideal only 10 minute walk into Ripon.
Will definately be returning.
An ideal place for a really relaxing break. You can get by without even using the car once you arrive.

We arrived for a 3 night break at the Uredale Lodge. Rod the owner was not there so our lodge was left open with the welcome file on the table. The lodge was nicely decorated, not 100% clean (I found a babies dummy underneath my bed), and the carpets / shower tray being black you couldn't see how clean it was or not. The hot tub was very cosy and heated up extremely hot. Our lodge and hot tub overlooked the river which was nice. Unfortunately there were no mats outside to we had to walk 4 or 5 metres over slippery slimey decking to get to and from the hot tub... The kitchen was nice to look at but cupboard doors opened the wrong way, crockery was basic - and there was half an inch of washing up liquid left for us, no sponges and only one drying towel.Bring your own toilet roll too as there was a minimal supply left for us. On the second morning the hot water stopped working and we had to fiddle with the boiler - Rod (site owner ) was away for weekend at a party so we never saw him the whole stay! Rang him to fix the hot water situation - but he failed to reply for several hours...We could not shower so this delayed us for over an hour leaving the lodge for a day out...

The view from the master bedroom was awful, upside down mouldy plastic garden furniture, litter and general neglected weeds and shrubs.. The lodge heated up nicely and parking was ample. One of the lodges had a party until the early hours of the Sunday morning making it hard to sleep. We checked out still not seeing anyone and made our way home. There's a Sainsburys 1 mile away in town - and plenty of restaurants / take aways who deliver. The welcome file was very useful. Would possibly stay here again although we found almost £400 a little expensive for a 3 night mid winter stay. Also we would have preferred white bed linnen - the silky black pattened duvet cover and pillow cases were not really ideal. Overall we'd rate the Riverside Lodges 6/10

I alway read reports on Tripadvisor and always decide to make up my own mind as different people moan about different things!!

My wife and I stayed in Hornblower for 4 nights from the 5th November 2012. We were met by Rod at the entrance and he took us around the lodge, explained the hot tub and told us where to go and what to do in and around Ripon. Very helpful and very enthusiastic.

The lodge was clean, warm and very well equipped. The hot tub was well used morning and evening and it was great watching the fireworks in 40c with a bottle of bubbly.

The kitchen was excellent, the lounge area very comfortable, the TV large!! The bed was comfortable and the shower was hot and powerful!

Just two very minor points........there were no towel rails so with all the showering and hot tubbing we had a few wet towels and trunks to hang........and the Internet connection didn't work (not on my I-pad anyway) and needed it for banking!! (Boring stuff)

We will be staying again!

We stayed in the Wensleydale Lodge, which is one of the river facing lodges, booking through Hoeseasons with my wife and little girl who is 10 months in October 2012.

While not an event free stay, we really enjoyed our time at Riverside Lodges and would recommend it to friends and family..

The Riverside Lodges are located in an out skirts area of Ripon. The location is really excellent, while not being entirely free of traffic noise it does manage to balance the peace and quiet of the countryside with the convenience of being near to the town center of Ripon and its amenities Our lodge had a direct view of the River Ure, it was lovely. Funnily enough, I don't think the pictures on their website quite do it justice, the hottub directly overlooks the river, and beyond that a tree line, then a field of sheep before finally some houses which are quite some distance away. Looking over the river at various times of the day, especially sunrise was an unforgettable experience. The Lodges, while close together do not overlook one another in anyway and you have complete privacy thanks to the fences. There is a large decking area, with a table and chairs plus you have the option to rent a gas BBQ. The decking area is fairly secure if you have young children with you as it is fenced at all sides, but I wouldn't take my eye off older children. The lodges are heated throughout and have numerous windows you can open.

We were in one of the larger lodges, and I have to say it was pretty spacious. We had a large living room area with wood floors, leather softs as well as a large screen TV with an attached DVD/CD player. Plenty of lighting and full height windows and patio doors overlooking decking and river.

This was open plan with the dining room and kitchen. The kitchen was equipped with the essentials such as pans, cutlery, crockery, kettle, toaster, oven with grill, electric hobs, microwave, dishwasher, chopping board. There was a mid sized fridge but this only had a small freezer box. If you like your coffee, note there is no cafetiere, but really this is the only thing we could have done with. There is on washing machine, but there is a washer dryer on site used by the cleaners which I believe you can pay to use. On arrival we found the toaster not working and the oven had a fault on it. We had quite a lot of trouble at first getting in touch with the owner, Rod who once we did get in touch with was very helpful and got both replaced.

The bedrooms were very nice and again spacious. In ours we had a double and a twin, but the twin could easily accommodate an adult couple comfortably. I would make comment the bed while comfortable was small, which I can't understand given the room size and at 6'3", I found it limited. Both were en-suite and had really powerful, always hot showers. One thing I missed when booking, and for any other parents booking with babies, there is no bath, so you may want to bring a baby bath. Of course, for the adults there is the hot tub to soak in!

The hottub was really nice. It runs at temperatures up to 40c, so even on the coldest day providing there is no rain it is luxury! As I have said previously, it is private apart from the houses that overlook the site from quite some distance away. Our hottub was a jet only variety, so no bubbles like other hottubs I have used but still really relaxing. I personally find turning down the temp slightly is better as you can stay in a longer period of time. Parents should note that on ours the straps stopping curious minds accessing the tub where broken, so you may wish to keep an eye on this.

Other points of a practical note. There is car parking for one car, after that it gets a bit limited on site - but there is parking immediately outside the site if needed. There is a gym right next to the site, and they do day passes I believe - but there is no swimming pool here. Further lodges are varied in size and not all have River views, so double check when booking. Hoeseasons website does not make clear which lodge you have, our booking simply said "Riverside Lodge" at Riverside Lodges - there is no lodge called "Riverside", so phone ahead you have any questions. Further, on arrival, the lodge is left unlocked with the key inside, again another reason to find your lodge out ahead of time.

As mentioned, location is excellent - little (but some) traffic noise, but next to main roads, you’re on the Dales or North York Moors in no time. Easily walk able to Ripon (about 20 mins) with its pubs, coffee shops, restaurants, supermarkets including a large Sainsburys, its famous Cathedral and Thursday market. It’s also within easy driving distance of Harrogate. There is a bus stop within 5 mins walk of the lodge, which I believe you can catch a bus to Harrogate from. Further, if you walk about 10 minutes in the same direction of Ripon you come across a Spa and a Majestic wine merchants.

All in all, recommended for a relaxing couples break or small family holiday.

I stayed in the Hornblower lodge with my husband and our dog for 4 nights Monday to Friday the last week in September. Lodges are well equipped, tastefully decorated and the hot tub is so relaxing i could have stayed longer. The owner of the lodges was helpful at all times despite quite a stressful time for him, the park flooded with the heavy rain and we were surrounded by water, he checked on us regualarly throughout the day and was constantly keeping us updated on the weather, he even stayed on the park all night on the worst night keeping an eye on the water levels. I would highly recommend these lodges to anyone looking for a relaxing break and cant wait to return, despite the weather!!

My partner and me spent a wonderful weekend here in November last year. Had a brilliant time. Hot tub was excellent. Sitting whilst it was snowing, sipping champagne and watching the river flow by silently was quite surreal. Rod was very helpful. Yes there small niggly things wrong with the facilities, but nothing worth complaining about. We are back in 2 weeks time with friends this time. Can't wait. Plces to try when you come, and you realy should get yourself to this place, are The One Eyed Rat pub and Lockwods. I'd also say Flo's but it seems to have closed according to Trip A disor updates.
