“Relaxing break”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 13, 2014 via mobile

We have just returned from a 3 night break at the Ripon Spa Hotel. We only booked 4 days before but we had a very comfortable twin- bedded room,6, overlooking the gardens. It was warm, very clean & plenty of space to have 2 comfortable chairs. The bathroom was on the small side but perfectly adequate with big fluffy towels & endless hot water. We enjoyed breakfast with a wide choice of food & in the evening the meals in the Turf Bar were delicious & a warm atmosphere helped by the log fire. We hope to visit again soon.

We are just back from another really pleasant visit to this hotel, for a long weekend and a function held there. I was pleased to see that it won a Tripadvisor award for 2013. We opted for a 'superior' room this time.

It was money well spent! We had a huge and elegant room with a commanding view of the (2 acre or so) grounds and croquet lawns, with bathroom to match. It was easily large enough for a full sized enamel bath and separate shower cubicle Service and food were both excellent - better than last time. The portion sizes at the function were unexpectedly large. The wine selection for the function could have been better but this may have been an extract from a fuller list. Prices for wine seemed very reasonable for a hotel like this.

When staying here you have to accept that this is an unashamedly old fashioned hotel - privately owned. If you want to criticise minor details about the state of the decor that is not hard but everything works as it should. This is just part of the character of the place. If you want somewhere which is pristine throughout and uniformly the same then try a Travelodge instead.

Already looking forward to an excuse to visit again!

Room Tip: We were in room 16, which we loved. Smokers will appreciate access to the fire escape as a makeshift...

Thank you for posting your review. It was great to hear you enjoyed the function and your overnight stay and we are looking forward to welcoming you back. I must however point out that the fire escape should not be used as a makeshift balcony for smoking - our terrace with patio heater is one of our designated smoking areas!

This hotel is ideally located within 3 minutes walk to the town and less than 10 minutes walk to the cathedral, the tourist information office and the river walk and museums. Our room was a very good size and comfortable with a nice view of the gardens. Breakfast was excellent. Unfortunately the kitchen closes at 8.45 and we arrived to late to eat but there a many good restaurants within walking distance. The only downside was the night porter who told us the bar was closed because people had to go home - which we were happy to accept as it was very late - but then opened the bar up for other guests who were friends of ours, after we had gone to bed. Other staff, including at breakfast were lovely. All in all this is a comfortable and friendly hotel and we would certainly use it again.

Room Tip: Top floor is quieter.

Thanks for your review, it was all going so well up until the bar incident, I think I would have been annoyed too. Please accept our apologies as serving drinks to residents is part of the night manager’s duties. Thanks for your understanding and we do hope you will stay with us again in the future.

We stayed for one night and had a lovely stay breakfast was very good, with both continental and full English available. Although an older hotel it was very comfortable. Some areas a little tired (our bedroom windows a bit draughty but the curtains solved that problem.

Came with family for Sunday lunch. 18,95 for three courses and coffee represented good value as the food was tasty and portions were large. The eight year old in our party ate for free. Service a tad slow but friendly. Surroundings starting to look a little tired. Overall, a good Sunday lunch spot.

just stayed for 3 nights, excellent hotel, stayed here last year at the same time, mainly used hotel because it is dog friendly. Excellent reception staff. Turf Bistro food excellent but not much choice on the special 2 course menu.

Thanks for your review and your return custom. Our 2 course special menu, which changes daily and offers a choice of 3 starters, mains and puds, is proving extremely popular at only £10.50. However we do appreciate that it might not suit everyone and I am sure an alternative could have been found. Hope to see you again next year!

We had a very pleasant two night break at the Ripon Spa Hotel. Very comfortable, spotlessly clean and the food in the Turf Bistro is of excellent quality, very well presented and good value for money.
The hotel staff are without exception professional, helpful and friendly. We love staying here!
