Very traditional but all modern fittings in room. Good breakfast choices served in elegant dining room looking directly onto the park. Friendly and helpful staff.

In a great location, not far to walk into Ripon centre. Hotel is quite old but has loads of character, is exceptionally clean and very comfortable. The staff were all lovely and really helpful. Breakfast was included in the price & well worth getting up on a Sunday morning for.
Our only gripe was the shower, it was a bit too close to the corner of the bath so you had to lean into it to get wet. Our room was at the back of the hotel, really quiet, a good night sleep. Would definitely stay here again.

Nothing is too much trouble at this excellent hotel, including fresh milk for the tea/coffe tray in the room, at any hour.
Any problems encountered such as a light bulb not working are dealt with straight away, you don't have to ask twice.
Wonderful food, served by friendly staff in either the restaurant or the dining room.

Room Tip: Many have view of garden

An old white painted building with some superb grounds and gardens.
A friendly receptionist and easy trouble free check in.
The room was on the second floor with a view of the gardens. Average size room for two people with modern furniture and a quite large ensuite.
This is a very old building but has been renovated to a modern standard and although some of the furniture a fittings were dated they worked for us. As I have bad knees the elevator fitted makes accessing your room very easy.
Breakfast was very adequate and the staff efficient and friendly. Overall, a good place to stay on a visit to North Yorkshire.
It’s an old building. Old buildings have problems. It you want bland, stay at a Travelodge!

Room Tip: Try one on the second floor with a view over the gardens.

This is the 4 year we have been to the Ripon Spa. Wish we had found it earlier. We take our dogs as they and us are welcomed as old friends and we were heading to Cruft's The hotel is so delightfully old fashioned, the service and cleanliness are second to none. We have no complaints to make as usual, the food is beautifully cooked and tastes so delicious. This time we took our 9 year old grandson and he thoroughly enjoyed himself running in the gardens with the dogs. We all slept soundly after a relaxing evening...thank you to all the staff for another enjoyable stay.

Room Tip: Never had a bad room...

It is rare that I will write a complaint however this hotel has forced me to write one!

The hotel is very dated and in desperate need of a clean and an upgrade. The hotel itself is a grand building and cleary could be returned to a good hotel however does need work. To put it into context it was not even on standard with a basic Travelodge which would normaly cost half the price.

My partner and I checked in for a 2night weekend stay, paying £113.00 per night and upon arriving at the hotel it appeared nice from outsite as it is ideally located in centre of Ripon. However as soon as we entered the building I was dubious to how good the accommodation was going to be. There is an old smell about the building, however not bad it certainly would be good to clean the carpets and upholstry which certainly would help to reduce the odour.

The receptionsit was polite and efficient in checking us in however this is where all the pleasantry's end.

The furniture throughout the hotel and guestrooms is very dated(not in a good vintage way), our room was very small and not cleaned to hotel standard. Just a few of the issues we incurred;
Old bed (sunken on both sides of the double bed)
Ripped top bed sheet
Stained base bed sheet
2 lightbulbs not working
Bathroom not fully cleaned

I spoke to the receptionist to see if another room was available which she did immediately check however I was advised they were fully booked and no apology or real enquiry was asked to why I wanted to change rooms. My partner and I reluctanctly stayed the evening after checking availability in all the other local hotels however we checked out early the following morning and moved to a separate hotel, (see my review of Hilton York). Upon checking out the same receptionsit enquired to why we were checking out early and after my explanation again no apology or even a gesture was offered for our poor accommodation.

I find this hotel to be very disappointing and cannot believe they are charging £113.00 per night for such poor accommodation.I would not recommend this hotel to any of my friends, ever.

Stayed one night mid-week as passing through Ripon. Elegant old house but dated decor and furnishings. Could do with a complete overhaul and revamp. They seem to be living on the back of a once really popular hotel with horse racing goers, as the pictures throughout reflect this together with the name of the restaurant, which is fine but it's really dated and not at all contemporary. You could do so much with this beautiful building and super grounds but perhaps no-one wants to spend the money in this economic climate........
I would imagine that coach parties to the races love staying at this hotel and will wonder why I wasn't keen but each to their own.
The room we stayed in on the second floor overlooked the gardens, which was pleasant but the room itself wasn't much to write home about. A small double bed which was lopsided, stupid steps up to the pokey little bathroom and a ridiculous shower over the bath. You had to reach in to the far wall to press the start button and get drenched in the process. The shower splash partition was a silly folded affair which didn't stay in situ and obviously soaked the floor.

However saying all these negatives there was a positive: the food in the restuarant was really good, nicely presented and you could see that the chef cares about what he serves to his diners. The only thing I was keen on was the chips, they may have been these daft "twice cooked" chips, they were quite dark and not crisp, I left them after tasting a couple.

Overall what could have been a luxurious stay was just mediocre and would look to stay somewhere else next time that offers a more modern approach, unless of course a better room was offered.

Room Tip: Ask to see the allocated room first.
