Newby Hall and Gardens host several events throughout the summer. There are craft fairs to Classic vehicle shows.
Newby Hall of course was just pipped at the post as the location of the fictitious Dowton Abbey. The house is marvelous and the room stewards helpful and knowledgeable. The gardens and woodland walk are just gorgeous. The woodland walk has sculptures placed around it by various artists and are for sale.

I ended up buying an annual pass.. Lovely tranquil gardens, busy and comprehensive children's play area.. Wonderful miniature train line through the bottom of the gardens.. Nice, quintessentially English day out...

Newby Hall turned out to be one of the great surprises of our recent trip to Yorkshire. Although being September a lot of the flowers had already gone over, there was still a lot to be seen as well as the start of the autumn colours. The grounds are full of surprises and the vistas from the hall are amazing. There's also a lovely cafe to enjoy the ambience of the garden. Like others we've often passed the sign on the road but in future we'll turn off.

Visited one Sunday afternoon- had always passed the signs for the place but never been in - the hall is reached down a long windy road- as you enter the grounds sheep are roaming free. There is a large picnic area with plenty of benches before you go in . If you are a member of RHS entry to the gardens is free- the house is extra- you have to book on a tour to go inside the house.
The gardens are truly spectacular and it's easy to loose hours wandering round- there's also a fantastic play area for the children and a miniature steam train( extra), there is a cafe / restaurant and some fantastic Zimbabwean sculptures that are available to buy. There are lots of fruit trees and the children had fun gathering (and eating) the different fruits. The gardens are truly wonderful! Didn't bother with the house on this occasion but will definitely return in the future .
