Maybe the management have read some of the reviews below and carried out staff training but I have to say that every one of the staff were polite, helpful and attentive during our stay at St Mellion. The food was good both in the brasserie and the An Boesti dining room. The room we had on the course side of the hotel was excellent and very comfortable. The weather was absolutely foul the first day and both golf courses were closed but we rebooked a tee-time for the following day and secured some electric trolleys too. Hats off to the greenkeepers who must have been having nightmares. The Kernow course was pretty boggy in parts and the greens were still recovering from being hollow-tined and sanded but it was an enjoyable round all the same. Wish I could say the same for the the Nicklaus course the day after. Not as wet and the greens were much better but some of the holes are absolutely vicious! All in all a great stay and hopefully we will return when the weather and my golf swing have both improved.

Booked this hotel for Mother's Day to spend weekend with my daughter who's in Uni in Plymouth. Twin room rate for quality of hotel was excellent. Reception area was very impressive and all staff we encountered provided exceptional service well done to you all friendly professional informative and personal. We used the restaurant in the evening - good quality food a little on the expensive side and not too much choice but couldn't fault the food we consumed. Swimming pool sauna etc facilities were good although there was a family who stood in the middle of the main swimming pool area obstructing the main swimming area and the lifeguards totally ignored this - bit frustrating swimming around them on each length when there was another pool for socializing and basically messing around. Also the Jacuzzi was 'out of order' during the whole time we were there. We also weren't told we needed a pound coin for the lockers in the changing room so we had to leave our personal items in an insecure locker. My one big issue with this hotel was our view! Over a car park with a huge window which left us like goldfishes in a bowl - all the golfers were looking straight into our room through a huge window and we were left watching them carrying their golf carts to their cars - fascinating NOT

Room Tip: Ask for a room with an acceptable view

I stayed here on the 12th March 2013. Good looking property, reception was not clearly signposted so took a while to find it.

Fast attentive reception staff, room was average but warm and clean, not over priced so not really an issue. Parking priority seems to given to golfers that park a lot closer than I was actually permitted and they use the allocated disabled spaces too which is not good!

The Bistro was nice, service good, but £7.50 for a large glass of red wine is a little extreme. Rib Eye was not on the evening meal 2 course deal......£20 so I paid the supplement of £4.95? Steak was good, but the veg was cold and so were the onion rings.....I did tell the waiter after the meal but nothing was done about it and I was charged the full price. But the starter was excellent!

Very comfortable bed, plenty of coffee and tea, really good quality iron and board, and a huge tv selection, free wired adsl in the room also..... !

I had a annoying leaking tap in the en suite, filled the sink over night, reported to reception on checkout. Did not manage breakfast as it does not start until 7am and left at 6.30am...

Good location, very close to Plymouth and I would stay again.... only a couple of issues nothing to drastic.

Room Tip: ensure a balcony overlooking the golf course

Booked 3 nights in March. The rooms are minimal and very travel lodge. I think this hotel was built on the cheap and shows it. The staff were great and helpfull ( thank god ) This made the stay bearable ! The pool & spa are very public accessible, so don't excpect a quiet time there!
The menu in the Bewdern Brasserie is just like your local pub chain and needs updating, as does the quality of the food..... Poor. The golf courses are great to play and the pro shop is very helpful and friendly, as are the course marshalls.
Play the golf, stay somewhere else.

Room Tip: Always ask for a course view.

As previous reviews have stated, the rooms here are distinctly average (I agree with the likeness to premier inn). The jacuzzi was out of order on the Saturday of mothers' day weekend, cleaned/fixed by the sun morning but still disappointing when you've arrived for s weekend chill out. At this point the shine really started to fade. The chicken I ordered in the brasserie that evening was raw. The staff were very apologetic and immediately brought me another - same issue - completely raw inside. This time I played safe and went for a salad, which took a while to come considering!

The next morning at breakfast I ordered the poached eggs, which again were undercooked, with lots of raw egg white oozing out. Instead I went to get some hot food from the buffet - empty - and a good 5-10 minute wait until it was refilled with lots of fed up customers waiting. Perhaps a new chef is needed!

We won't be returning.

Well in advance we booked 2 lodges for 2 families at St Mellion. The lodges are a short car hop or 5 minute walk from reception; they are very spacious and clean if a little dated but that was reflected in the price making them good value. For self catering you really couldn't ask for any more other than perhaps a sauna (our lodge had one of those too!).

We used the hotel every day and we made full use of the swimming facilities which really are very good for a hotel. With 5 relatively young chidren / 2 families, the 3 separate pools meet all standards plus they are lifeguarded.

We ate in the brasserie most days for lunch. Chidren's food was really very resonable in price (£3.50) for smaller versions of the adults menu. Top pick from the menu for me was the Caesar salad with crayfish and prawns but don't ask for the large portion unless you're sharing! A number of staff stood out but Doreen was very helpful and always attentive to our table of nine. We also took a bit of liking to the cider on tap (when in Cornwall do as the Cornish do!)

The wives managed a morning off in the spa - and came out raving about their treatments. On our final night we had had a splurge in the fine dining restaurant thanks to the hotel finding a really good baby sitter. Don't bother looking at the menu - just order the taster menu, a great experience amongst friends.

What with swimming once or twice a day, local walks around the beautiful estate, plenty of safe areas for the kids to escape and play, golf practice and our roomy self catering lodge (Waitrose deliver locally) we only left St Mellion once in the whole of the week we stayed. Great holiday and a great spot.

Top tips: book the spa in advance, its busy. Take scooters for children as the estate spreads over acres. If you have younger chidren and can make half term the camps are very good. Take a torch for walking back from the hotel to the lodge in the evening (although reception were quite happy to run us back).

Room Tip: Lodge 26 and 33

A last minute 2 night stay last week. So glad we went. Excellent yet again from the time we arrived. The beauty of this resort is the staff. They are all excellent and we mean excellent. From the golf shop, cleaner, reception, restaurant, spa area. All so cheerful and helpful. We are quite discerning where hotels are concerned. St Mellion is excellent.

Room Tip: Choose high floor if facing car park area.
