“A golfing few days”
Reviewed December 6, 2012

I stayed at the resort from Sunday 18th November for five nights using the resort as a base for a golfing odyssey across Cornwall and south Devon. The hotel is very functional with excellent facilities. Being late November the St Mellion courses were waterlogged and closed but I was there for links golf not parkland golf. The hotel is well placed to travel to fine links courses such as West Cornwall, Thurlestone, Newquay, Bude and North Cornwall, Trevose, St Enedoc and Perranporth. As mentioned the hotel facilities are fine. The gym and spa area met my needs every night. The bar/restaurant area is spot on with live football shown each night on the big screen. The breakfast buffet was not the best, the cold offerings were spot on but the hot buffet was limited. My bedroom was as previously stated functional though the balcony view of the eighteenth green was most acceptable. All in all I think the hotel is a good base. Oh by the way the Pasty Shop about a mile down the road towards Plymouth is well worth a visit. The pasties are excellent.

Room Tip: Get a golf course view. The alternative is the less than scenic car park.

I went to this resort to attend an NICEIC Tech Talk and take part in the trade show there on Thursday 29th November 2012. The resort looked very good and though I am not a golfer, the golf club and greens looked in first order. The area was very scenic and worth visiting, though be wary of the narrow roads if you enter from the wrong direction. The interior of the hotel was very good, clean and well presented. I thought the staff were very helpful and polite. I was told that the rooms were on a deal price for this occasion and a standard double was £49 per night which was extremely good. The breakfast was quoted to me as being £12.50. Theer were a lot of amenitities on offer gym etc. The telephone number is 01579351351

We stayed at the st mellion in mid october the hotel was warm and very welcoming, it is basically a golf hotel with an exellent course running round the hotel , We were purely visiting a relative who lived nearby , i did notice that a lot of the guests were families who wrte welcomed as much as the golfers, food was exellent i suggest people who like coffee try the coffee and mints dessert it is not what you think it will be.ENJOY.

Room Tip: All the rooms are away from the noisy areas so even if you are going to a dinner or wedding you will...

What an amazing place
This is one of if not the best eating experience I've ever had
An Boesti is something else, the food is to die for, the service is exceptional and the atmosphere is very good
The scallop & belly pork starter was beautiful, the chateaubriand was perfect and the best bit of beef I've ever eaten
The following morning we had breakfast which again was exceptional, loads of choice from the buffet - fruit/breads/meats/cereals plus full English. Alongside this was a menu which you could choose from
I've been here 3 times year and each time the service and food has been excellent

The pool/ spa complex is lovely, the room was good size and the bed comfy. The one small problem is the lighting - harsh in the room and too soft, no good for doing your make-up in the bathroom. Presumably most guests are male golferd and don't have the make-up issue. BUT....... The food was really not up to 4 star standard. We had a very poor dinner and the restaurant staff were badly trained. They regularly forgot orders or got them wrong. Just not up to scratch and certainly didn't match up to their highly aspirational marketing.

We have stayed at St Mellion on various occasions. This time we stayed in a superior room and had dinner in An Boesti. Although clean the room itself was no more superior than other rooms we have stayed in - the only bonus was the lovely balcony and view over the golf course (great on a nice day, but not much use on a cold dark November afternoon!) Golf and leisure facilities are very good and we had lovely massages in the spa. Breakfast in the Bewdern Brasserie was OK (though I do prefer my English breakfast cooked to order, and the continental table was picked over by 9.30 am). Dinner in An Boesti (we had the signature menu) was very nice and tasty. Staff were very friendly but sadly there was only one other couple eating there that evening, so it rather lacked 'atmosphere'. St Mellion is great as a golf and country club, but I wouldn't necessarily choose it again for a night away 'fine dining'.

Room Tip: The superior rooms on the golf course side have much nicer views

Bright, modern hotel in the middle of nowhere just over the Cornish border. Bit of a nightmare to get there by public transport in the dark but warm welcome on reception. Rooms big with modern facilities. Beds a little uncomfortable as the doubles seem to be two singles stuck together with a big crack in between. Facilties modern and room rates, bars and food all reasonable. Room prices comparible to Premier Inn but much better rooms. Good 3 course offer in bar and breakfast well cooked and good value.
