A fabulous piece of heritage for Cornwall and Plymouth. What is there not to love about the Brunel Bridge?

this is the most iconic bridge built by Brunel and has stood the test of time and is unique which is more than can be said for the modern suspension bridge alongside

It's such an impressive structure, especially when you think about what it must have been like to build it. There are also easy walks nearby on both sides of the river

On anyone's terms this is an impressive bridge. I had also heard that at one point it was painted cream but some a brief look via the search engine I see that at least one authoritative historian I dictates that it was initially painted a very light grey and about ten years later the central tower was painted a granite colour and the rest brown. Personally I honk that the present battleship grey is very boring and that without making it too kitsch or dainty it should be possible to find something more appropriate and maybe striking. I see that it is currently about a quarter through a mayor long term paint job, again in naval grey so I doubt there will be another opportunity for something more interesting for a decade or more.
