The only thing wrong with our stay at this fantastic place was it was only for the one night, Alan and Katie make you welcome from the first step over the threshold, nothing is too much trouble for them and their willingness to help is outstanding. We stopped in the room called 'The Loft' which was immaculately presented and has great views of the Derwent Valley. Alan pointed us in the direction of some superb watering holes for our evenings entertainment which was much appreciated. Breakfast was the icing on the cake, what you want is what you get and it was absolutely delicious. I cannot fault the Sheriff Lodge, Alan and Kate are the perfect hosts and we will be returning soon.

We stayed in Sheriff Lodge for 3 nights and couldn't have been made more welcome. We stayed with our dog and The Warren was perfect for the last trip into the garden in the evening. We tried hard to think of something which was missing, nothing was! The extra touches were faultless, even down to a dog bowl should you have forgotten to bring one. The breakfast was marvellous and the fresh bread and homemade jam delicious.
The Warren was perfect for a family and should the weather have been unfriendly there were games and videos to keep the children occupied.

Thanks for a perfect stay, the recommended pub up the road was really friendly and the food good value , and was dog friendly even down to the beef scraps when the biscuits ran out.

My husband and I stayed a couple of nights at the end of Oct. Booked the B & B based on the comments on trip advisor. Was not a disappointment. All the lovely comments written by people who had previously stopped were correct.
Kate served us tea and cake on our arrival which was a lovely touch. The sherry was another lovely thought. The rooms were spotless and the bed was lovely and comfortable. The eggs benedict were cooked fresh and were very enjoyable. Nothing was too much trouble for Kate. We were visiting Chatsworth House and Kate even had discounted vouchers available for Chatsworth. Really enjoyed our stay but it went far too quickly.

Room Tip: We stayed in the "nest" room at the top of the house which had a nice size bedroom and bat...

We basically took over Sheriff Lodge so that our whole family could stay together and celebrate my Father's 70th birthday. It was our first visit and this special occasion was made even more so by the way in which Kate and Alan looked after us. A warm welcome, beautiful, clean, well equipped rooms, unbelievable breakfasts and such friendly hosts. Lots of wonderful finishing touches - the fresh, daily home made bread, fresh mixed fruit and home made jams, to name but a few. We will definitely recommend Sheriff Lodge to our friends and we will be returning.

Have just spent a lovely weekend at Sheriff Lodge with eleven family members getting together for a 70th birthday celebration. We had a very warm welcome from the owners with much enjoyed tea/coffee and delicious home-made cakes on arrival. The communal area/dining room is beautiful and spacious with a fridge containing chilled water and fruit juice cartons to help yourself to. Also, mini chocolate bars which were very popular with our group! All the bedrooms were wonderful with particular attention to detail which puts them up and above any hotel room we've ever come across. Restaurants and bars in Matlock are just a short stroll away. The owners Kate and Alan were extremely friendly and helpful and Hattie their dog was loved by us all. The breakfast selection was amazing with everything most people could wish for on offer and was beautifully prepared and presented. The whole family very much enjoyed the weekend and we would definitely recommend the Sheriff Lodge as a top-notch B&B. We look forward to returning at some point in the future.

When we arrived we were greeted by Kate who was very friendly. The B&B is a beautiful Victorian property with many original features. The rooms are really clean and the beds are enormous. Many extra litlle touches such as an emergency box in the wardrobe which included things like make-up wipes and toothpaste. The breakfast was fantastic (too much for me) and I only ordered one of everything but for my husband that does eat a lot he was in food heaven. Kate did say to us that we could have anything for example if we wanted 10 sausages as well as everything else I could have had them!!! Again the freshly home made bread was a really nice added extra. The local pub we went to (Sycamore Inn) for an evening meal was very nice and served proper home cooked meals (we can recommend the Steak & Ale Pie) prices very reasonable. All in all we enjoyed the stay and wished we could have stayed for longer........we will next time as we will definatley be back.

This was our second visit to Sheriff Lodge this year and everything about it was as great as we remembered. Kate and Alan make you feel very welcome from the moment you arrive with tea or coffee in the lounge (and a delicious home made cake) and provide numerous extras to make your stay special. We stayed in the Mousehole which is a spacious room with lots of mouse themed decorative effects and a lovely walk in shower. The bedroom and bathroom were both immaculate and we slept very well in what appears to be a quiet part of Matlock at night and were not disturbed by early risers. The breakfast at Sheriff Lodge is amazing with such a lot of choice, beautifully presented and a slice of their home made bread is almost a meal in itself. For value for money it must be very hard to beat and we hope to stay there again in the spring.
