Owner description: This is a scheduled ancient monument site containing industrial mill ruins in a state of picturesque decay. It is a wildlife conservation area and therefore there are no picnic areas, no paddling or swimming areas and no children's play areas. The route down through the Valley past the ruins is steep, muddy and uneven, with steps and some sharp drops to the sides. We strongly advise that you begin your walk at the top of the Valley, opposite Highfields Upper School (where there is parking). There are no toilet or refreshment facilities anywhere in the Valley. It is a peaceful place of natural woodland and wetland habitats, looked after by volunteers for the Arkwright Society, the Charity that owns the Valley. Please help us to take care of this very special place by respecting the wildlife, keeping to the paths, not climbing on the ruins - and taking your litter home with you.

Found this place by accident and was absolutely transported into another world as we walked and climbed up by the waterfalls and ruined mill buildings. Reminded us of Chichen Itza in Mexico with its' mysterious architecture now reclaimed by trailing vines and vegetation. A photographer's paradise and a wonderful and tranquil place to soliloquize and become one with nature.

As I live near this site which is part of the English Heritage and features a water course in a woodland area I tend not to appreciate the beauty and tranquillity of this site Well worth a visit and is a very nice day out and what is more it is free to walk around and walkable from Natlock town centre

If you love feeling like you’re discovering a lost world then this is the place for you. This hidden gem is amazing and well worth a visit. The water cascading from the rocks surrounded by trees will relax anybody. I was totally blown away with the beauty of this place; it truly is nature at its very best!!

This is a bit of Matlock's heritage. These derelict mills were the forerunners of Arkwright's grand plan, Now slowly, nature is reclaiming them....it's a photographer's dream.

A heavenly waterfall and trail of old mill buildings, millstones, a mill pond......a gorgeous little walk and public footpath. A hidden gem well worth seeking out.
