“The ultimate getaway”
Reviewed September 9, 2017 for a stay in September 2017

This is the perfect place to get away from stressful city life and chill out to the max with your friends.

You will need cars. It's about a 15 minute drive from Matlock and a 25 minute walk from the nearest bus stop. But that's no bad thing: it's very peaceful and the views go on for miles.

The cottage itself is beautiful inside and out. 2 doubles, a twin room, 2 showers - and four loos! Everything is beautifully decorated and the hosts were very welcoming. There's a gorgeous cat called Jasper who wander inside if you let him.

We had breakfast outside in the sunshine. Prosecco in the hot tub was also a real treat, followed by a takeaway in pyjamas in front of the log burner (the Indian delivers from Matlock!).

In terms of trips, it's less than 30 minutes drive from Chatsworth, Haddon Hall and Bakewell - well worth a visit.

Ladybower reservoir was about an hour away but worth it for amazing walks. There's a 14 km loop you can do with spectacular views, but beware; there's a fair bit of climbing involved!

Would recommend. One tip: at the cottage you have to have the timer on to get the Rangemaster oven to come on!

Thank you for your five star review. So pleased you enjoyed your stay at The Old Granary and we very much look forward to welcoming you again in the future. Just to clarify the issue with the cooker, the power had been off the previous evening and as with most cookers the timer clock needs to be re-set before the cooker will work. Once re-set the cooker operates as normal.
Kind regards Amanda

“Look no further...”
Reviewed December 1, 2016 for a stay in November 2016

If you are on this page you are no doubt looking for a well-equipped, salubrious, high end, relaxing, country escape in picturesque environment. Well look no further! We stayed here for three nights on a late booking having stayed previously two years ago. Amanda even remembered us and had our address on record which made booking the second time effortless. The attention to detail in the beautifully equipped spacious accommodation is second to none. The views of the rolling countryside from the luxurious hot tub have to be one of the best you find anywhere in England.

My only concern in writing this is that it will contribute to its well-earned popularity and we might not be able to get a late booking again next time!

Please can we come back again! :-)

“A Perfect Autumn Break!”
Reviewed November 22, 2016 for a stay in November 2016

We had a 3 night stay in the Old Granary and from the moment we arrived Amanda made us feel welcomed and relaxed. The house has been renovated to a high standard, was cosy warm with underfloor heating on fabulous terracotta tiles in the lounge. The beds are super comfy and the bed linen delightful. The kitchen was stocked with everything you could need and the pots, pans and utensils are all great quality and in great condition. The hottub was a bonus and must win the prize for the best view from a hotub in Derbyshire, it was stunning by day and night!
We ate at Stones in Matlock (book well in advance) and had a day at Chatsworth House and Christmas Market and had a lovely walk around Winster and Birchover all short easy drives.
All in all the The Old Granary is the perfect accomodation in the perfect location for simply relaxing with friends or family and exploring this part of beautiful Derbyshire.

“Wonderful weekend break”
Reviewed April 26, 2016 for a stay in April 2016

We enjoyed a great weekend with friends - 3 couples and a (beautiful!) baby. Cottage was very well equipped, comfy beds and plenty of bathrooms, so no sharing! We enjoyed evenings with the log burner and hot tub and didn't let the chilly weather put us off barbecuing on the terrace. Great hosts who advised us on local amenities and restaurants and gave directions for running routes. Plenty to do locally - we enjoyed Chatsworth house and walked the Monsail trail from Bakewell. Would love to return.
