“Fabulous bed and breakfast in great location!”
Reviewed February 11, 2013

Myself and my husband stayed here for two nights with our friends to celebrate our birthdays. We were greeted by tea and homemade lemon drizzle cake on arrival, a lovely touch. We stayed in the four poster room, which was beautiful, had all the comforts you could need and so clean. in fact the whole house is spotless!
Breakfast was outstanding. The ingredients were local and of a high quality. Would recommend the full English.
The guest house is ideally located, just a short stroll from shops, cafes and places to eat out. We did the high tor and heights of Abraham walks. Would recommend doing this.

All in all a wonderful property. Would definitely stay again!

Thank you for your review. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay with friends for your birthday celebrations. We use a local farm shope for many of our breakfast items and cook all orders fresh so it is great to have your feedback. We hope you enjoyed your visit to Bakewell.

I have just spent a night at Glendon Guest House with a group of friends to celebrate a special birthday. It really is the most wonderful place having been sympathetically decorated - simply but exquisitely and with a real homely feel. Attention to detail is exceptional - lovely bedding, towels toiletries, tea and coffee making facilities with lovely biscuits, and chocolates in the bedrooms. Our hosts were wonderful - nothing was too much trouble for them - and breakfast has to be tried to be believed! Certainly somewhere worth making a special trip for !

Room Tip: Ask for the four poster - pure luxury !

Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay. Glendon is a lovely building and it is good to know you like the decor. Our aim was to create a welcoming place to stay, whilst respecting the Victorian style. We hope you may be able to visit again.

I have just spent a birthday weekend with a group of friends at Glendon. From the moment we arrived to the time we departed nothing was too much trouble for our hosts. I enjoyed the splendour and comfort of the four poster room, definately to be recommended. Huge shower with well chosen toiletries, fluffy towels, top quality linen, complimentary chocolates and tea and coffee making facilities all contibuted to make our stay a real treat.

We also enjoyed a home cooked dinner and time spent exploring the many small antique and vintage shops in Matlock itself, only a short walk from Glendon. We are already plotting a return visit.

Having read previous reviews I had to check this B&B out. I travel a lot and stay in many hotels and this place surpassed almost all of them. The hosts have thought of every detail, fresh milk in the bedrooms and home baking, beautiful bed linen I could go on.... Treat yourself and you will not be disappointed.

This is definitely a great place to stay, everything is perfect, from the friendly welcome, with tea and cake, to the rooms, to the breakfasts, to everything in fact, you feel cosseted and welcomed at all times by Adrian and Damian. We booked a romantic stay in the four poster room just before christmas, and it was lovely, lots of nice touches including providing us with proper glasses to enjoy the champagne we brought with us, the ensuite was very stylish, and just what I wish my own bathroom looked like. The fridge is a silent running one, and its the little touches like this that set Glendon House apart. Our room was at the front of the house and looked out onto a nice little park and the local church, the view was lovely. We went out into Matlock and the surrounding villages for drinks and meals, and again would thoroughly recommend this area as a place for a great rejuvenating break, and dont think of staying anywhere else. Book yourself a holiday here and sit back and luxuriate in an exceptional b and b, well done to Adrian and Damian for greating such a lovely place to stay. We will be back....

Room Tip: the four poster room is very romantic and has great views out to the front of the house

Where do I begin to tell you what a fabulous place to stay Gendon is?
Damien and Adrian are wonderful welcoming hosts, knowledgeable about the area and helpful. As if by magic we were greeted at the door, our luggage taken care of and within minutes we were enjoying fresh coffee, tea and delicious home made cake in the elegant, comfortable guest lounge.
Our tastefully decorated, spotlessly clean room was beautiful and as we stayed with a large group of friends, taking over the whole house, we were able to check out the other rooms and see they were all equally fabulous including the 4 poster and the family rooms. The bed with its top quality linen was so comfortable and after sleeping really well I refused to get out of it on the first morning, enjoying my coffee and listening to the radio on the flat screen T.V. all snug and warm. The jug of fresh milk in the totally silent fridge was a really welcome touch. There is also a selection of goodies and bottled water in there too which are priced to enjoy not shock.
Whilst I lounged in bed my husband tried out the huge shower with its endless supply of hot water and luxury toiletries and eventually got out but certainly didn't rush! When it was my turn I was not disappointed. The bathroom had lovely soft, fluffy towels and even a lit mirror so you could actually see to put on your make up (for those of us who do not wake up naturally beautiful) and the hair dryer provided in the room was a good quality one with the socket next to the mirror over the desk/dressing table, all very well thought out, as was the provision of sufficient hangers in the wardrobe.
We slipped downstairs into the lovely dining room to join our friends for breakfast and what a breakfast. The choice would rival any 5 star hotel, cereals, fruit, yoghurt, compote, fresh fruit salad, full English made with the finest local produce, smoked salmon, scrambled eggs, English muffins, Eggs Benedict and real porridge served with a little bowl of brown sugar and jugs of fresh cream and maple syrup. Mmmmm! I can recommend that and the full English. Fruit juice was served on arrival and the fresh leaf tea, good coffee and toast were replaced as often as needed whilst we chatted and laughed with our friends, enjoying the papers whilst planning our stroll to the Christmas markets.
We all lead busy lives and sometimes staying somewhere for the first time you don't know what to expect but I totally relaxed at Glendon. It was perfect in every way.
We didn't want to leave and cannot wait to go back, as a couple or with a group of friends or family.
