Thornleigh itself is a beautiful house, well positioned to explore Matlock on foot ,yet not in a busy position. But it's the way the house is presented, furnished, equipped and cared for which makes all the difference.
We are a family of 12, with three generations ranging in ages from 3 to (now) 80. The incredible thought put in to catering for the range of needs of such a group is superb, from the toys and games in the games room, to the hot tub and sauna , to the amount and range of utensils and equipment in the kitchen was remarkable.
Whatever our meal plans were, we had the kitchenware to handle it, and when we planned to eat out we had the information from Mark and Rachel to make informed choices. The Viva Italian restaurant was our favourite.
The configuration of beds/ rooms/ en-suites / bathroom was what you would aim for in your own home, not too crowded, in fact very spacious bedrooms, suitably furnished for the style of the house.
So, do you think we loved it ? Absolutely ! My personal favourite "quirky bit" was in the kitchen . . . .everybody needs an 'odds and ends ' drawer at some time or another - and yes! there is one, just when I was cross that I had forgotten the string and Blu tack you saved the day. This was certainly a 'Home from Home' ----with bells on !! Thank you.
A beautiful house very welcoming and comfortable. Perfect setting in the heart of matlock . Has everything you need and more . Would recommend it.
The location of the property is central for all the amenities of Matlock and a short drive from Matlock Bath and all the sights.
Thornleigh is a spacious, homely property and served as a fantastic base for 3 generations of our family during our recent stay. The kitchen was well equipped with cooking utensils, tableware and glasses - the owners have thought of everything!
Our children were also very impressed with all the games and pool table down in the basement.
We stayed as a group of 10 for my hen weekend and had the best time! The professional photos don't even really do the house justice as it was much bigger and more spacious than expected, and is so lovely inside. We found a little hamper of welcome treats when we arrived, which was very thoughtful, and we appreciated the advice on local recommendations during the booking process (we really enjoyed the escape room round the corner!) The kitchen had absolutely everything you could ever need (and then some), and we even hired a chef to cook for us one evening, which was great. The best part was definitely the amazing hot tub in the garden, which was just a lovely treat and we made the most of it. Thanks for a great weekend!
Stayed here last weekend with a group of 10 girlfriends. It's a lovely big property in the centre of Matlock which is a very nice town. (Try the Monk bar for lovely cocktails 241 5pm to 7 and Viva Italian restaurant is amazing) The hot tub is lovely as is the large kitchen/dining area for big groups. The kitchen has everything you need. The living room also seats everyone which isn't always the case in large properties. There were 2 areas I could suggest for improvement 1) cleaning, as the property isn't the cleanest and 2) there is building work next door which woke us up Saturday and Monday. May have been an idea to let guests know before arriving. Having said that I would recommend the property to others.
We had a short holiday at Thornleigh House recently for our extended family comprising 13 people in 5 small families/couples. We loved the house from the start - so much room for us all to enjoy being together around the huge table in the kitchen (with no shortage of crockery or cutlery) or sitting in the courtyard garden. But there was plenty of room to escape if we needed to - the spacious bedrooms (4 ensuite) were like a quality hotel. There was something in the house for everyone - games room for the kids, hot tub and sauna for those of us wanting to unwind and plenty of reading literature in the lounge on the top floor landing.
It was a huge bonus that the house was within walking distance of the lovely town of Matlock which made it easy for my elderly parents. The town has an interesting variety of shops, a really pretty park where we sat and sang along with the brass band on Sunday afternoon and nice walks into the hills surrounding the town that are a wonderful view from the house.
I'm sure we will be making a return visit.
Had a fantastic weekend in this lovely house with five other couples. Centrally located in Matlock so perfect for shops, restaurants etc but also great walks straight from the door. An easy walk by the river to Matlock Bath and The Heights of Abraham. We didn't use our cars at all. Had a lovely meal at Thailand No 1 on Saturday night - we booked 3 weeks in advance and were glad we did as they were turning people away all night. All the rooms were clean and spacious, the only downside would be the singles on the second floor having to go downstairs to use the toilet and bathroom. The hot tub and games room were brilliant and we have never stayed anywhere with such a well equipped kitchen!
