“Great Italian atmosphere in Derbyshire”
Reviewed November 12, 2013

A little taste of Italy in Matlock
We live locally and like to visit here occasionally, food is good and well priced. Although you might have to wait for your meal it's freshly cooked (you can see the kitchen) and the buzzy atmosphere helps to make the wait interesting
It's best to book as it does get busy here, quite a lot of family celebrations appear to be held at Viva
Worth a visit if you are in the area

Dear customer,

Thank you for taking the time to write a lovely review for us on TA. Its great to know that people who live locally like yourselves enjoy Viva as a place to dine out in your area. We do get a lot of large celebration bookings, especially on Fridays and Saturdays. Which we would always recommend booking in advance to secure your table.
We look forward to seeing you again

Kind Regards

“Unusual find in this small Derbyshire town.”
Reviewed November 11, 2013

It was good to find a fairly authentic Italian restaurant in the middle of Derbyshire. Genuine Italian waiter in charge - typical in initial curt attitude as well as his ability to warm to you. On the ball and observant as to each tables needs.
Food presented elegantly and full of flavour. Most dishes also genuine - but with the usual English 'Bolognaise' expectations as well.
House wines really awful - Choices by the glass? "Red, white or rose!" Not quite the answer I was looking for.
They need to turn down the lighting which is way too bright for an intimate evening out.

Would certainly return, try and afford a decent bottle of wine to compliment the meal and hope the owner has decided to reduce his electricity bill and found a dimmer switch for the lighting by then.

Dear customer,

Thank you for writing a review for us on TA. I apologize that you were a little disappointed with the wine choice by the glass. But as we have such a large selection of wines available, it would be difficult to offer and price different wines on the menu by the glass. Therefore we have 3 house wines which are available by the glass or bottle.
I am so pleased that you enjoyed the food and service you received and I shall keep my eye on the lighting in the restaurant.
Thanks again for your feedback.

Kind Regards

“Excellent Italian restaurant with friendly, personal service”
Reviewed November 7, 2013

Went with two young children late-ish one evening while travelling. Warm welcome, great menu. Slight delay for the food - but well worth the wait. Delicious, hand made pizza - great base and plenty of topping -, lovely salad. Prompt, quick, friendly service. Owner came over to have a chat while we were waiting for the food, checked on us to see if everything was ok. Nice light touch to the service - always there to help when needed. Did two smaller and beautifully presented ice cream desserts for the children - nice touch. Wish we'd had more time. Everyone else in the restaurant looked equally happy and well looked after. Prices completely fair and good value. Nice decor too! Many thanks.

Dear customer,
Thank you for taking the time to write a kind review for us on TA. I am very pleased that you and your family enjoyed their meal out at Viva. We try to make the experience at Viva great for kids as much as we do for the adults. For example with the presentation of our childrens dishes and deserts, makes it a little more special for them.
We look forward to seeing you again in the future.

Kind Regards

“What an experience!”
Reviewed October 31, 2013

We had booked for one evening (Wednesday 23rd October) but in the event, our Grandson wanted a pizza on the first evening of our short break so arrangements were made for us to go on Tuesday 22nd October also.
The service on Tuesday was exceptional and the food not that far behind! Indeed for me it was the finest Calzone Pizza I have ever eaten anywhere anytime! That said the minestrone soup was to "die for". We had an exceptional time that evening and looked forward to the nest night.
We did not expect to see the same Waiting Personnel but on entering our Grandson was invited to concoct his own pizza. Boy, did he enjoy that.
Again the minestrone soup was perfection itself and the other courses we had were equally as good.
I would have no hesitation in saying that Viva Italian in Matlock is by far and away the best Italian Restaurant we have ever visited. Superb!!!
