Good pub food, great steak
No nonsense menu and decor.
Great beer, well kept, good selection

Just a quick thank you to Mel and Judy and the team at Duke William. Always a pleasure to visit. We have a Vw camper and are always made to fell very welcome during our stay. Facilities including a shower for campers is always clean and well stocked. We usually park at the top end of the car park so wet weather is not a problem but the field is more than adequate for a stay over and is always kept tidy.
As for the pub what can I say always a warm welcome and the food is varied and always excellent and with the newly introduced two meals for a tenner is well worth considering.
Entertainment is always very good with Karaoke on the Friday and a duo on the Saturday always excellent.
Situated just outside Matlock town centre it is only a five minute walk to the centre with a variety of pubs and shops. That and a train station with direct access to Derby and Nottingham and within walking distance of Matlock bath what more could you ask for.
All in all well worth a visit and highly recommended to any one wanting a break.

We have just returned from our first family camping trip, (eight adults and four grand children - 3 generations), and were very pleased with the basic, but friendly camp-site and great pub and staff, The food was typical pub fayre, but loads of it and yummy.

Camping was better than expected and we were blessed with perfect weather. Talking about being blessed, those church bells other reviews have mentioned. Let me give you my opinion.
For people not used to twenty four hour church bells, they were murder. I though it wouldn't bother a good sleeper like me, but the other reviews haven't mentioned the fact that the church was right next to us - within a hundred yards anyway!

Anyway, I promised myself I wouldn't go on about the bells, (the bells, the bells), as we had such a great time anyway. You must visit the stepping stones in Dovedale, Bakewell and Derby if you like lots of shopping!

Recommend if trying camping for the first time.

We were looking for some nice pub food after a long day in the peaks and were presented with a nice large dish with lots of fresh salads and vegetables.
