Friendly owners but all a bit Fawlty Towers. Bed linen and beds were like sleeping in a youth hostel. All felt a bit grungy. Horrible used dark towels. At breakfast, no juices, ended up with sguash. Very cheap ingredients. Lovely and friendly, but that dosnt make up for lack of value. Everything a bit chaotic. Didnt want to mention the vomit under the outside seating area. Lovely people but cant reccmmend
Just back from two days walking in Matlock and area . Great place to stay. After day's walking came back to good food, very reasonably priced, good beer, likewise, and a really friendly staff. The place is popular, so busy, but nothing was too much trouble for Chris and Lisa, the proprietors. We enjoyed our evenings in the pub and the bed was clean and comfortable. Yes, it is up a steep hill but we walked down one evening and the taxi back was only £4. Thank you Chris and Lisa, you helped make our break more enjoyable. Viola and Mick.
had a wonderful weekend with my husband was made very welcome on arrival by the barmaid ,everything was very relaxed food was fantastic breakfast was top notch and the landlady and landlord could'nt be any friendlier would highly recomend this hotel to anyone which i already have done can't wait to go again.
Have just arrived home from a very enjoyable weekend at the Duke of Wellington on arrival greeted by the owners (Chris and Lisa) and made to feel welcome from the onset rooms clean and comfortable just what is needed for a weekend food excellent and plenty of it can highly recommend breakfast staff very friendly and helpful looking forward to staying there again
I made a booking through Booking.com which was confirmed by e-mail. On my arrival at the Duke of Wellington I was told that there was no record of my booking. Talking to the staff, seems that this is a regular occurrence at this hotel and they were totally unconcerned that no room was available. So don't expect to stay unless you have confirmed your room directly with the hotel
We booked into this B&B as we were looking for somewhere reasonably priced in Matlock. We booked based on room only and paid an additional amount on arrival for breakfast.
The B&B is easy to find, located on the A632 and 2-minutes drive from Matlock (30-minute walk although the hill is very steep!). We arrived early and were very warmly greated by the landlady (the rooms are located in a separate annex next to the pub) who gave us some great advice on the local area and good directions for getting to Matlock and Matlock Bath.
When we came back from Matlock we had no trouble checking in and we shown to our room by the landlord. The room (number 4) was lovely - it looked a little like a barn conversion but was contemporary inside. The heating had been switched on before we arrived making the room lovely and warm on a cold January day. The bathroom was a reasonable size although they was a little damp damage around the shower. The room also had sky TV - something I've not come across in a B&B in this price range.
We ate in the pub during the evening and had a fantastic, well priced meal - the beer was also reasonably priced too! The breakfast in the morning was huge and very good - well worth £5.95 each.
Overall, the B&B was fantastic and offered excellent value for money. The owners we very welcoming and made us feel at home. We'd definately stay here again!
