I made a booking through Booking.com which was confirmed by e-mail. On my arrival at the Duke of Wellington I was told that there was no record of my booking. Talking to the staff, seems that this is a regular occurrence at this hotel and they were totally unconcerned that no room was available. So don't expect to stay unless you have confirmed your room directly with the hotel

We booked into this B&B as we were looking for somewhere reasonably priced in Matlock. We booked based on room only and paid an additional amount on arrival for breakfast.

The B&B is easy to find, located on the A632 and 2-minutes drive from Matlock (30-minute walk although the hill is very steep!). We arrived early and were very warmly greated by the landlady (the rooms are located in a separate annex next to the pub) who gave us some great advice on the local area and good directions for getting to Matlock and Matlock Bath.

When we came back from Matlock we had no trouble checking in and we shown to our room by the landlord. The room (number 4) was lovely - it looked a little like a barn conversion but was contemporary inside. The heating had been switched on before we arrived making the room lovely and warm on a cold January day. The bathroom was a reasonable size although they was a little damp damage around the shower. The room also had sky TV - something I've not come across in a B&B in this price range.

We ate in the pub during the evening and had a fantastic, well priced meal - the beer was also reasonably priced too! The breakfast in the morning was huge and very good - well worth £5.95 each.

Overall, the B&B was fantastic and offered excellent value for money. The owners we very welcoming and made us feel at home. We'd definately stay here again!

We stayed at the Duke of Wellington for just one night and it was exactly what we were looking for.
We are two couples in our 30's and were looking for a reasonably priced b and b within walking distance to Matlock.
The rooms were clean, with comfortable beds, and had shower over bath, which was ideal for us. Oh and I don't watch TV but I think there was sky TV in the room.
Breakfast was lovely, and an absolute bargain!
The staff were all very friendly, and made us feel very welcome.
The pub had a lovely character and as me and my partner arrived well in advance of my cousin and partner, we had lots of time to get comfortable in the pub with a good few pints! The pub menu looked excellent, however we had already decided to walk into Matlock where we had a good curry after a few more drinks, but would definately eat at the pub another time as it looked delicious!
We are hoping to return again in the next couple of months for an overnight stay and would definately recommend the hotel to anyone!

We stayed here after meeting up with family for an evening out. The rooms were warm, clean and comfortable, the staff were lovely and nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast was good value and delicious - coffee/tea, juice, cereal, toast and a full English with vegetarian option. We would definitely consider staying again.

A warm welcome. Very friendly and helpful staff. The room was very clean, decorated in modern style, although black bed linen would not be our first choice. The room was fine, quite a small hanging space and storage for clothes, but for a short break perfectly acceptable. No problems at all with hot water, or heating. Both the breakfast and evening meal, which were included in the price, were very good.

We only stayed for one night for which I was glad. Friendly welcome when we arrived but we had to pay whole amount (£65) upfront. We had a double room with a 4-poster bed (our friends in a twin room only paid £55) but our room was very small and bedpost partly obscured the TV. Only one bedside table and lamp so if you both wanted to read you had to use the main light and get out of bed to turn it off. Towels very small and had seen better days. Bedding rather tired looking and duvet cover was coming apart at the seams. Absolutely nowhere to store clothes - no wardrobe or drawer units or hangers. Impossible to maintain a constant stream of warm water in the shower - water either very hot or very cold with constant adjustment needed. Breakfast (extra £5.95) adequate but no proper coffee, only little sachets of Nescafe and hot water. With some attention to detail it could be so much better.
