“Home cooking away from home”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 13, 2014

During our holiday in the Peak District we enjoyed several evening meals at the Sycamore Inn. With a great atmosphere, we always received a warm and friendly welcome from the staff and locals. The meals were prepared to order and always to a very high standard. Plenty of choice, tasty nourishing food, and really good value are a few of the thoughts that come to mind when we remember our visits to the Sycamore.

“Walking Holiday”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 21, 2014

Fed ten of us on a walking holiday at very short notice. Great food, great service, great beer.
Unfortunately not open for food on a Sunday otherwise we would have gone back again.

“Good atmosphere, great home cooked food & cask ale”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 30, 2014

We booked the Sycamore based on TA reviews. It wasn't my first choice, but because our trip was last minute, other options were full. Actually, we were glad because from where we were staying (Duke of Wellington) the walk into the Town centre was very steep and given the shoes my wife was wearing, would necessitated a taxi back..!
Anyway, we found the Sycamore, after a short detour, not an imposing sight at first...but once inside there was a lovely Saturday evening bubble of chatter and atmosphere....
Staff were friendly, beer excellent and when the food came, it was super, it was basic pub food but it had obviously been made in the kitchen...no boil in the bag, bought in, Foodservice prepared, meals here. My wife had mushroom stroganoff and I had steak pie....nice and hot, good sized portions and not too full to stop me having another lovely pint of ale....Try this place...you'll like it...

“Pub meals in Matlock”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 23, 2014

Visited Matlock with a group of friends on a walking holiday and dined twice at the Sycamore Inn. Its a good job we were walkers as it is worth the steep climb to the pub - down hill on the way back! The food was lovely with plenty of choices for vegetarians. We should have got there earlier on our second night as the delicious home made pies were sold out. But this just proves how good they are. The staff were very friendly and we even tried our hand at the quiz night and hopefully didn't disgrace ourselves too much.

“Excellent food and good welcome”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 30, 2014 via mobile

This was our first time to Matlock and we found the Sycamore Inn on TripAdvisor. This is a smallish local pub, but packs punch when it comes to good ale and good home cooking.

There were 5 hand pull ales on when we visited - a must for a beer lover. prices were reasonable.

The food was excellent quality and excellent value for money - I would recommend one of June's home made pies. We had the Steak and the Chicken & Tarragon pies - fantastic!

The staff were very welcoming and helpful.

The Sycamore Inn is not in the middle of Matlock and up quite a long steep hill, but a taxi from our B&B was only £3 each way.

Well worth a visit!

Thank you to the team at the Sycamore Inn for a lovely evening in Matlock.
