When visiting the area I stopped here for Brunch, I ordered a toasted muffin with bacon and scrambled egg. It was excellent, the bacon was nice and tick, well cooked and very tasty the scrambled eggs were freshly made, they were light and fluffy, cooked too perfection, very slightly under done which stopped them from going hard and rubbery. I had a pot of tea, and although small I got 3 cups out of it. the surroundings were so nice and peaceful that I stayed longer and ordered a cafe latte. The staff were very nice and helpful.the whole place was spotless. The menu was great and the also served alcohol, I wished I had been staying longer. Will make sure I will pay a return visit and would highly recommend this little treasure

If you want a traditional Bakewell Pudding this is the place to visit and learn the difference. Got to say if you want a almond spongy thing stay with Mr Kippling. The meals are good and wholesome the only thing to watch is the time, It can be a little slow when busy, but well worth a visit

I thought a pudding would be a steamed pudding, however this was more of a greasy pie or filo tart than a pudding.

It had none of the lovely almondy spongy taste of a Bakewell, it was greasy and slimy and I have no idea what flavour the jam was. The ionly good thing was the huge quantity of cream and custard that accompanied it.

However, the staff were very friendly and efficient. Nice staff shame about the famous pudding.

Trip Advisor is a forum whereby people can share their views on the service and quality of produce offered by an establishment NOT for individuals to offer opinions according to their taste and preconceptions as you have done.

The definition of ‘Pudding’ does not infer a ‘steamed pudding’ so I cannot understand why you would visit with such an assumption. When you enter our shop, whether at the main counter, the deli or upstairs in the restaurant there are our famous Puddings on display allowing you a glimpse of what is in store should you order one in the restaurant or choose to take one home with you.

The Bakewell Pudding has a puff pastry base, a layer of strawberry jam and then a mixture of eggs, almonds, sugar and butter along with our secret ingredient which sets like an egg custard in texture. Unfortunately the butter can make it slightly greasy however this is all part and parcel of the product that has been enjoyed for hundreds of years.

‘Almondy sponge’ is part of the Bakewell Tart, something which is made in Bakewell but not the ‘taste of Bakewell’ as you say, as the Tart is made and sold all over the world.

Called in for morning coffee and cake. Felt like a truly valued customer. Red velvet cake super and unsurpassed before or since. Also expanded shop with the obligatory original bakewell puddings for sale. Incidentally these are suitable for freezing in my experience and hence you can enjoy later.

Frozen chips, tinned mushy peas and a pie made in a foil tray 'a la chip shop' style with Bisto style gravy. Not worth the money, very disappointing.
We went to this Derbyshire icon only to be very disappointed.
