Two families stayed for one night at this lovely hotel. I only wished we had been staying longer. The first thing that strikes the guest is the unfailing warmth and courtesy of all members of staff. It was not only staff attitudes that were warm - the whole building was comfortably warm and how lovely to enter and find an open fire in the hallway. Our room was, admittedly, one of the best in the building (I believe). Big comfortable beds and a large ensuite bathroom. We loved the space, particularly the raised area by the bay window where we could sit and absorb the scenery whilst enjoying a cup of tea/.coffee. Indeed, the view from that window when we got up in the morning was magical - rolling grassy hills bathed in the morning sunshine with cows gazing contentedly. This was a chocolate box picture.
We arrived at midday and were served with a light lunch ordered from the Bar but served in the dining room. Although we are in our 70's, we enjoy walking and were pleased to walk into Bakewell during the afternoon - a distance I would guess of about 4 miles. Warning, the last bus back to the Hassop leaves fairly early! Evening dinner was of high quality, pleasantly and efficiently served in tasteful surroundings. This visit was arranged for us as a birthday treat and we truly enjoyed it.More
