The entrance to this family-run hotel is through some wrought-iron gates embellished with gold. These impressive gates open onto a long drive leading to a car-park. The actual entrance to the Hotel itself is a rather inauspicious single door opening onto the car park. The Hotel reception area is not at all obvious - in fact, initially, we left the building to see if we had missed the main entrance, but eventually we found the reception point was an unmarked opening in the wall at the end of a corridor. We received a warm, friendly welcome. We were shown to our room which was clean, spacious and comfortable and looked out over open countryside. Dinner was served in the dining room with a large candle on each table supplemented by a ceiling light directed onto the table. The tablecloth and napkins were clean, crisp linen. The food was excellent - well-cooked and well-presented with a very adequate wine-list. Breakfast was served in the same room and was also excellent with a buffet for cereals, fruit and juices and a wide range of cooked foods which were prepared to order. If there was a downside at this hotel [apart from being unable to find the Reception] it was with one young waitress who obviously needed futher training - her welcome into the dining room was not particularly friendly and she repeatedly served me with food and wine before my wife. Apart from this, the staff were welcoming and efficient. This hotel has an old-fashioned charm which we found very pleasant and would recommend to others.

Room Tip: Book a superior room for the space and outlook

Historic country home & estate - family run with very high standards & SO friendly. Fantastic walking and cycling close by. Friday & saturday nights have amazing pianists playing. Lovely cosy bar. Recommend the food.

If you like old country houses you will love this place, it's history goes back 900 years.
Today the hotel is a nice quiet and picturesque place set in the Derbyshire countryside. On our stay we had a nice room at the front of the hotel which overlooked the terrace and the fields going down, everything was provided tea and coffee making facilities etc plus nice bathrobes. The rest of the communal rooms are all full of history relating to the house including a potted history about the families who have lived there.
The menu is impressive with a wide range of food to choose from and the wine selection accompanies it well. All the staff are friendly and the service is first rate, so we are already looking forward to going again.

We visited as a family of 5, for Sunday lunch to celebrate a special Birthday. We come to Hassop Hall several times a year and are always made very welcome and always enjoy the splendid surroundings. The Sunday lunch menu has remained unchanged for as long as we remember but is extensive enough to always be a hard decision as what to choose. The food was superb and attention from waiting on-staff as good as it gets. There is a need to book well in advance though which is a result of their obvious success. Despite being fully booked on the Sunday it did not feel too full which was very comfortable.

I have been staying at Hassop Hall for more than 20 years and it is one of my favourite places. As usual the bedroom was spotlessly clean with a wonderfully comfortable bed. Lovely staff - and I really like the fact that they are individual personalities rather than the automatons in some hotels. The menu is superb quality and traditional without a single swirl of " sauce from a squeegee bottle" on the plate! Fantastic situation and lovely breakfast - also dog friendly - what more could you ask?

Room Tip: Spend a little extra for a front facing room. There are a lot of weddings in summer so Saturdays can be busy.
