We eat here a lot - and it's usually great. We went to their jazz evening this week and were disappointed. The music and the staff were great but the Jubilee themed food was disappointing. The pork was a dry-ish with a few new potatoes. There were other veg supped seperately to be fair and they weren't too bad. Not bad value but I think we will stick to eating on non-event nights from now on!

The menu was so varied and tempting I had trouble choosing as did my guests. However the prawn and smoked salmon salad was a triumph - fresh, tasty and ( three cheers !) not overdressed. Bakewell Pudding with vanilla ice cream a sensation.

Waiter dealt with our odd requests - please can we have 2 plates for dessert and you see those chips over there please can we have some ?

Nothing too much trouble and thanks to the Gourmet Society card - dinner for 4 inc tip ( 3 courses each, inc 2 shared desserts - and a bottle of wine £80. Cant say fairer than that. Made the trip to Bakewell worthwhile. Result !

After entering through a small shop like entrance we were surprised to find at least three large dining rooms with well spaced out tables. The service was good and the food cooked in a traditional French manner. Taking advantage of the offer of two main courses and a bottle of wine for £26 we came away with half a bottle of good wine to finish at home. I enjoyed a confit leg of chicken which is a rare find in this country while my wife enjoyed a tarte du jour which was well coated with spinach, walnuts and brie.

On entry to the restaurant we were given a warm welcome by Joel. Our waitresses were Amy and Angela. Great service very proffessional. I have a food allergy. It was refreshing that Joel was well up to date in info about what I could eat. Starter, main and dessert were lovely. Good wine;) we did not book and the only available table was in the back restuarant, so had to sit in the room where there was a hen party, a bit lnoisy for us but we did have some entertainment! Enjoyable evening, good food, and excellent friendly but polite staff.

Went here on a whim and returned again the next evening as we enjoyed both the food and service so much. What more can we say!
