“Great for a winter weekend outing”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 20, 2012

Have made several visits here to walk along the Monsal Trail in both directions. A perfect combination is lunch at the cafe followed by a brisk winter walk - or you could walk first and drop in for a sizeable afternoon tea. Alongside soups and sandwiches, burgers (homemade) , huge jacket potatoes and salad plates there are usually three specials - meat, veggie and salad. Last Sunday's spicy pork and beans was very tasty as was the leek, chestnut and mushroom pie. there was also a roasted beetroot salad with gits cheese croutons - this is typical of the menus we have experienced recently. Puddings double as cakes and are delicious, if rather full of calories. The chocolate and hazelnut meringue looked wonderful but we resisted! Don't be alarmed by the queue - there is a fast turnover of tables, though sometimes the food takes a while to arrive.
Alongside the cafe is a book outlet, and various cards and gifts, as well as a cycle hire if you want to pedal or tandem along the trail. You certainly need the exercise after the cakes!
Seasonal note - they have a rather interesting Christmas menu available at lunchtimes till 23rd December - one, two or three courses. Looks tasty.

“Great Burgers”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 14, 2012

Been here a few times now and never been disappointed with any of the dishes especially the burgers which are top notch, freshly made and you get a choice of chips or fries.

There is also a gift shop and book outlet and plenty of seating outside if the weather is OK.

It's always busy so maybe avoid 1200-1400 and parking is sometimes difficult but really worth the effort. I don't agree that it is pricey and compares with similar eateries around there. The service is good but some staff really do need to smile abit.......

After try a visit to Monsal Head or Longstone View (which I think is better).

“Great Stop Whilst on Monsall Trail”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012

We stopped here for a bite to eat after biking from Buxton to Bakewell.
The cafe was warm, clean and light. Although it was busy, the service was quick.
Excellent tasty food with a great choice on the menus. Lots of excellent home cooked cakes to choose from too. We had the soup of the day and some toasties both delicious and even had space for the cakes afterwards equally delicious.

“Very busy and not cheap but a great stop off”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 24, 2012

A very conveniently located stop off on the Monsal Trail. The food is great, as is the coffee. Queues can be very long particuarly at weekends and holidays. Not cheap but you pay for what you get. Great covered over area with a couple of little wnedy houses for the children to keep them occupied. Chairs and tables also under covered area soas you can keep an eye in them. Cycle hire, ice cream shop, gift shop and a book shop are on site. There is a large car park, pay and display so you could start and end your bike ride from here.
