“Not to be Missed”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 31, 2011

We went on the "steak night" but didn't book.It was very busy.We were given a table in the bar which was fine but it is nicer in the restaurant or conservatory so I suggest booking.Great value quality, steaks and ribs and good service. There are plenty of other choices on the menu .
You can eat in the large landscaped beer garden, weather permitting.

Ashford- in -the- Water, which is a beautiful Norman village is not in Bakewell itself but about 2 miles away.Have a walk round after your meal and perhaps feed the ducks but remember to take some bread. The large car park is useful for travellers.

“It was alright at the price”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 17, 2011

Dropped in without making a reservation and we were found a table for two next to the door, they seemed quite full. The service was a litttle sluggish, but the food when it arrived was OK. My wife had chicken that was served nicely by a waiter and she was happy with the range of vegetables that came with it. I had a steak and ale pie that came in a seperate dish, accompanied by chunky chips.

The pie was too hot to eat initially and the crust was thin and hard, microwaved I thought. Once it had cooled down it turned out to be quite tender tasty although the crust continued to resist attempts to cut it - snapped it into bits eventually and soaked them in the gravy.

It was decent value for the money, but if you want to eat there, try to make a reservation.

“Lovely restaurant in a gem of a village”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 4, 2011

Called in for lunch on a bank holiday weekend, as it was the closest place that the sat nav brought us to.
We both ordered a slad, one ploughmans and one Norwegion prawn.
Service was excellent and the portions were huge!

Other diners food seemed equally good from what I could see and hear comments from.

Well worth a stroll round the village after lunch with a lovely riverside setting and bridge.

“Not for special occasions”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 26, 2011

We ate at the restaurant as we had rented a nearby cottage in Ashford in the Water. We had popped into the bar for a couple of afternoon beers following various local walks. The local Bakewell Best Bitter was very nice. On speaking to one of the bar staff, they recommended that we booked for a Friday night meal. This was quite good advice as the restaurant was indeed busy. The meal service was a fairly average and uninspiring. The food was what we would have expected in any pub serving food. If staying in the area again, we would possibly call in for a beer and some food. However, if some distance away, I'd be checking out other local bars, rather than making a special journey to visit again.
