Attraction details
Owner description: The historic Linacre Reservoirs provide the perfect setting for a quiet, relaxing day out. A network of trails and footpaths crisscross the valley. Visitors can explore ancient beech and oak woodlands or follow the course of the Holme Brook as it cascades down the valley. The peaceful setting means the site abounds with wildlife. Nuthatches, flycatchers and woodpeckers can be seen and heard as they flit among the canopy and kingfishers and mandarin ducks can be spotted around the waters edge. The site is accessible all year round. Car parking There are three small car parks along the main entrance road to the Linacre Reservoirs. Car parking at Linacre costs £1.00 for up to two hours and £2.50 for the day. An annual parking permit for up to two cars costs £25.00.

“Nice walk, People moaning with dogs should just double bag it !”
Reviewed February 13, 2014

All these people moaning about not having dog bins, just double bag it, that's all I do with mine, nobody forced us to have dogs, the reservoirs were not built for people to walk dogs around, you just make do and carry it with you or wait for your dog to do the business near the car park !
Other than that it is a fantastic walk around the reservoirs, if you walk round all 3 reservoirs I think its around 2.5 miles so its a decent little walk and very dog friendly (other than the bins).
New car parking fee is a bit annoying but its not too bad, cheaper than some other places just remember to take £1 with you.
P.S. If you don't want to carry dog dirt around with you, go to Holmebrook, they have plenty of bins !

“Nice place ”
Reviewed February 5, 2014 via mobile

This is a lovely place to go at any time of year with all the different colours you get though the trees and reflections on the water. I visit most weeks I love to run round all the 3 lakes with my dog who also loves this place. The down diode to it it has no poop bins so for me I have to bag it them leave it near the begging of my run and the collect it on my way back but if half way through my run I have to take it with me which is not nice so strongly believe they should put some bins up apart from that I say it's a must to visit :-)

“Tranquil wooded valley with 3 reservoirs”
Reviewed January 26, 2014

Beautiful, spirit uplifting Linacre with its deep wood, secret sculptures, nestboxes, streams, network of footpaths, wildlife and birdsong. 2 decent car parks, toilets a little way down from the car park next to the rangers building, several benches and tables here and there with lovely views, paths etc well maintained while still being 'natural'. Informative boards. Well done to all who take care of this woodland. Yes, you now have to pay at machines for parking to help with upkeep - small price for direct access to such a lovely area, or annual pass works out at 50p a week. Path immediately down from the bottom car park does seem cleaner since paying has been introduced? as even with a dog bin in the car park, some disrespectful people couldn't be bothered to pick up and use it, leaving others who love and appreciate Linacre to clean up after them. Visit and value this lovely bit of Derbyshire.

“Beautiful scenery for a good dog walk”
Reviewed January 10, 2014

A billion litres of water in three Victorian-built reservoirs terraced down a hilled and wooded landscape, nothing short of gorgeous. Wildlife and picnic areas make this a lovely all-year-round location to visit.

“Not as good as it used to be!”
Reviewed December 10, 2013 via mobile

I went with my dogs and noticed they now have a ticket machine in the car park. I know they have done some new work up there but I think it's disgusting you should have to pay to walk your dogs. I won't be going there again and I know it won't just be me.
