This really is an un known jem. The Chesterfield Canal is starting to become so popular, as it offe rs , a lovely flat walk on a good towpath, whether you choose to do 1 mile or the whole 46. Trip boats are available and a nice teashop, but note only open wed -sun ,plus b/hols.If you want a breath of fresh air some where different, give a try.

“Always something to see”
Reviewed January 2, 2013

Pathways much improved to ensure good access for walkers and cyclists in all weathers. Abundant wild flowers and wildlife throughout the changing seasons. Looking forward to it being connected up to the main canal network so that we get more boats visiting the town.

“Walking the dogs”
Reviewed December 11, 2012

We love walking along the canal at any time of year. Living in Hasland it is nice to be able to walk beside water, to watch the baby birds in spring and watch them grow. The changing riverbank scenery with the seasons, is fascinating. The visitors centre is very useful to.

“good for mind and body”
Reviewed November 27, 2012

I live near staveley and go walking down by the canal several times a week as i have two dogs to excersise.there are several routes i take, sometimes i walk from Staveley canal basin to nonnas coffee shop which is a short walk of around 30mins.sometimes i start from the coffee shop and walk to the Mill pub then back again which is approx one and a half to two hrs.Occasionally i start from the entrance near the old Arnold Laver site and walk home which again is a longer walk.it doesnt matter what the weather is like as long as you are dressed correctly.
i always feel more relaxed when i have been on my walks.on good days you do see other people whether walkers or cyclists or a fishing match maybe taking place.
I mostly just walk but sometimes stop at the cafe to have tea and cake as a treat.Everyone should try it.
