Pathways much improved to ensure good access for walkers and cyclists in all weathers. Abundant wild flowers and wildlife throughout the changing seasons. Looking forward to it being connected up to the main canal network so that we get more boats visiting the town.

We love walking along the canal at any time of year. Living in Hasland it is nice to be able to walk beside water, to watch the baby birds in spring and watch them grow. The changing riverbank scenery with the seasons, is fascinating. The visitors centre is very useful to.

I live near staveley and go walking down by the canal several times a week as i have two dogs to excersise.there are several routes i take, sometimes i walk from Staveley canal basin to nonnas coffee shop which is a short walk of around 30mins.sometimes i start from the coffee shop and walk to the Mill pub then back again which is approx one and a half to two hrs.Occasionally i start from the entrance near the old Arnold Laver site and walk home which again is a longer walk.it doesnt matter what the weather is like as long as you are dressed correctly.
i always feel more relaxed when i have been on my walks.on good days you do see other people whether walkers or cyclists or a fishing match maybe taking place.
I mostly just walk but sometimes stop at the cafe to have tea and cake as a treat.Everyone should try it.

Thank S A

You can cycle on the canal path from Chesterfield (Tapton Lock) to Rother Valley Park at Killamarsh. Most of path is flat. The is a cafe on route and a pub. Once at the Rother valley there is another cafe. Path is approx. 11 miles. You can cycle round the rother valley as well. There is a lot of work going on to improve canal. Various craft events take place at the Hollingwood Hub. Worth getting a map of the Derbyshire cycle paths (free at the tourist office in Chesterfield). Look on the Chesterfield Canal Trust website for more information and to volunteer to help with improvements.
