Barrow Hill is a great attraction in the North Derbyshire area, not only because it's still very much a working roundhouse, but also because of it's history and the atmosphere of the centre. It's open to the public on Saturdays and Sundays and free (although a donation is appreciated) and is home to many steam and diesel engines, workshops and rail preservation groups. They have regular open days which are always worth attending and host other talks and events throughout the year. I really enjoy just going along on a lazy Sunday and strolling around the trains, there's also a cosy cafe which serves drinks and small meals and snacks. Well worth visiting if you're a rail enthusiast, family or just passing by!

Part of our local heritage. A unique museum, not to mention the venue of an annual real ale festival!

I a long time ago "Train Spotter" this is the perfect place to visit, though I found it a little difficult to find. There were so many engines which brought back so many memories, wonderful. I must visit again on an open day.

Probably the last fully working roundhouse left. Several open days are organised during the year where numerous famous steam engines have been on show. A definite must visit for all steam buffs.
