I've been bringing my daughter since she was 5 and she's now 15. It's a must for younger kids to learn all about the local town esp the building of the crooked spire and every so many months new exhibitions are focused on.

This small museum really gives an insight of Romans, coal mining & schools in the olden days. You can listen to life stories on the telephones. They often have special days for the kids e.g. dressing up as a roman. The museum is a nice place to fill up an 30min-1hr of your day.

If you have 30 minutes to wait for a bus, take a tour around.

Its warm, dry and mildly entertaining for a while.

If you are interested in Chesterfield history, then you will be happy.

I did find it a bit dull, but, I must admit that I have not been for quite a while, and must return to justify my review.

The museum tells the story of Chesterfield from its origin as a Roman fort to the present day. It is located in the Stephenson Memorial Hall, built in 1879 as a mechanics institute, and named in honour of the town's most famous Victorian resident, railway pioneer George Stephenson. The museum opened in 1994 and is the first public museum in the town, opening times are 1000-1600
