Hardwick Hall is a lovely day out. We went in June on a quiet day - no children. It had been raining so the surrounding countryside and the gardens were lush and green. We borrowed a wheelchair, which was very handy but you cant take it in the house. The staff were all helpful and friendly. Although this is one of the National Trusts smaller houses I liked it immensely; there was something cosy and snug about it. The food in the nearby Hardwick Inn is much better quality and value than the NT cafe at the top and, if the weather permits, you can eat outside in the garden.
