Whilst on a walk around town we came across the wharf and were lucky enough to see a barge going through the lock which I had seen before but was new to my wife.A nice place to take five minutes rest whilst exploring.

We had a lovely canal walk with our dog from Bradford upon Avon to Avoncliff Aquaduct, where we stopped to have lunch at the Cross Guns pub. The canal path was slightly muddy in some areas but hardly any people prior to lunch. The meal at the pub was lovely, service good and food reasonably priced. We returned via the lower river path which was extremely muddy (thank goodness for walking boots). The path was still in good use by dog walkers and would by lovely in summer. The path eventually joins a branch path leading to the swing canal bridge. As the canal path was no busy with walkers and bicycles we remained on the lower path back to the barn. The walk and stop for food overall took us 2 1/2 hours but we're walking slowly.

I often cycle down the canal as the views are lovely and calming and there happens to be a pub and a cafe!

We had four days trying out a narrow boat on the Kennet and Avon Canal. It was cold but fun made a lot better by a warming visit to Baileys Barn where we had a welcome cuppa and a full English breakfast. The volunteers at the Canals and River Trust on the canal side lock were so helpful and friendly as I was terrified of letting all the water out of the Canal!
