“Clean, comfortable & friendly”
Reviewed October 28, 2013

Checked in with my husband on sat 26th oct for one night.
Very friendly, was shown the rooms available before we decided whether or not to stay, as mentioned its a clean comfortable hotel, would recommend room 8.
We didn't indulge in an eveni g meal however the bar staff were friendly and breakfast the following morning was good.

but a fantastic service. I had to hold a reception there for a small group (25) of people after the death of a family member. The initial service, given by the owner was exemplary, courteous and kind but sill full of the information needed. On arrival, the food served was lovely, presented well and tasted great. He also keeps his cellar in top form too. He has a number of real ales on tap, all tasted lovely.

Highly recommended

we have just spent four nights at the Swan. Central to the town, it is a good base for touring the area, and we enjoyed our stay. Staff are pleasant and helpful and we were comfortable in our room. However, it was two floors up and there is no lift. Our impression was that the hotel needs an investment to bring it up to todays standards, but this is being done gradually, presumably as it can be afforded. We were delighted with the stone flags in the hallway, and will be interested to go back to see how things are going. At least it is keeping its rural character, and isnt just another gastro pub. That said, we were not impressed with the breakfast arrangements, one girl waiting at table, in Reception and watching the bar area. It felt very amateurish. During our stay, the housekeeping side ran out of English breakfast tea for hospitality trays, and portions of half fat milk. On the last morning, there was no butter available at breakfast.Having read reviews, we did not have an evening meal there. This is potentially a really lovely hotel, Not yet a four star though!

Room Tip: on the back, without a street view

Thank you for your feedback, we were sorry you did not take the opportunity to dine with us and hope that you may have the opportunity on a future occasion, I think you arrived just before the stairs carpet did, having completely refurbished the ground floor it was the last piece of the puzzle we were waiting for!
We were sorry about the issues you had at breakfast and thank you for your feedback and hope that you will take the opportunity to return again

Called in on a Saturday afternoon for a quick bite to eat and drink. Warm welcome from bar staff along with friendly banter. Selected a Club sandwich and chips and a chicken, guacamole and tomato sandwich, along with an extra portion of chips. We took our drinks out back to enjoy the sunshine and even though it was not busy had to clear the table in order to sit down. When our food arrived it was plentiful and the Club sandwich was one of the best I have had for a long time. My wife said her sandwich was very good and came with tortilla chips and a small salad. The extra chips came in a large bowl and were fantastic, nice and crispy on the outside with a soft fluffy center. We will use The Swan again when in the area. Use local car park as the hotel one is very small.

The pub is located centrally to the village & very near the train station & bus services to Bath & surrounds. The pub has a nice atmosphere and old world charm with a reasonable beer garden. Rooms are huge with even bigger bathrooms for some reason. Rooms fronting on to the main street are very noisy due to heavy traffic. Staff try hard but miss a few key things. Rooms are highly over priced at £125/night.

Thanks for your comments, you stayed in Room 8 which does have a massive bathroom, however all our rooms are different and unique so rooms and bathrooms vary in size.
You mentioned that the staff try hard but miss a few key points, we always welcome feedback to help us improve our services and facilities and would welcome further information from you on the areas you felt we were lacking, if you feel inclined to we would welcome an email from you to stay@theswanbradford.co.uk

went to have dinner last night with my wife. what a terrible mistake. waited over 45 minutes for our meals to arrive and the outsatanding thing is we were the only 2 people dining there!!! was also put off by the constant commotion from the kitchen nearby and the chef shouting at a member of staff. will not go back.

This is a beautiful old Hotel. We ate in the restaurant which was beautifully decorated. The waitresses were friendly and helpful, and the meal delicious and freshly cooked. Would definitely go again if in the area.
