Best Western Leigh Park Hotel
Reviewed July 25, 2013

Two nights on a Groupon deal for two, bed breakfast and evening meal. Room 260 is in the stable block with a king sized bed and a walk in shower, TV and all the usual facilities. The grounds are very pleasant but the lounge facilities are not spectacular and the bar prices require a second mortgage. However the crowning glory is the food; superb meals, well prepared and presented with an adequate wine list priced just below eye watering.

Bradford-on-Avon is not the place for those who do not have cloven feet. The traffic is horrendous and pedestrians are an obvious nuisance.

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel. I was delighted to read that you enjoyed your stay with us and thoroughly enjoyed your dining experience and the accompanying wine list. The restaurant menu changes daily and our dedicated chefs use only the finest local ingredients to prepare the dishes.

The BEST WESTERN Leigh Park Hotel is an elegant Georgian Country House Hotel and we are very proud of its English Heritage, with parts of the building and grounds dating back over 500 years. It was indeed used as a hospital throughout the war and into the 1970’s, it was converted into the hotel we see today in 1980.

I would just like to take this opportunity to assure you that the bar prices are monitored on a regular basis and we ensure we are in line with other establishments in the local area.

The Saxon town of Bradford on Avon is very popular with visitors from around the world and we feel extremely fortunate to be located in such a beautiful Wiltshire town so close to the Georgian City of Bath. Commuter traffic is rarely an issue and we feel the opportunity to explore the town and surrounding area far outweighs any concerns regarding peak time traffic.

Thank you for choosing the BEST WESTERN Leigh Park Hotel, we hope we have the pleasure in welcoming you back again soon.

We have just spent 2 nights at the Leigh Park and were very impressed. It is a beautiful country house hotel, a little tired as the majority of these types of hotel are, but that did not detract from the enjoyment of our stay.
The most outstanding plus point for us was the friendliness and attentiveness of the staff - nothing was too much trouble. The attitude of the staff can make or break the enjoyment of a hotel stay, and they certainly made ours. Thank you.
We ate in the restaurant on both nights and we found the food to be outstanding. We could not fault it - beautifully cooked and presented, excellent portion size and the service was exceptional.
Breakfast was also to a high standard - the best bacon I think we have ever tasted.
Our room was large and spacious, as was the bathroom. The super king size bed unbelievably comfortable! Lovely big, fluffy white bath towels and robes.
We would not hesitate to recommend this hotel, and intend to return.

The Leigh Park Country Hotel is a beautiful and historical hotel, of Georgian architecture similar to Bath, with Victorian furnishings, and set in a beautiful location with landscaped gardens, vineyard with nice views over the Wiltshire countryside. It does not have a lot of extra amenities, but is a great value for those who appreciate it's beauty and historical charm.

It is also a popular place for weddings, so it may also feel like you're staying at a Wedding Chapel.

I "highly" recommend the Castle Inn pub for local, casual atmosphere and excellent ecletic food.

The hotel is indeed a very popular wedding venue due to our location and surroundings but we ensure that such events have little or no impact on any hotel residents not attending the function.

I arrived at the hotel at about 23:30 and I didn't find anybody at the lobby but only the room keys for my colleagues: even if I had booked the room several days before, my key was not there!
I had to make a call and an employ came to give me the key of my room. The room was at the second floor: no elevator and once inside the temperature was very hot. Moreover, a strange smell inside the room was present.
No air condition available so I had to sleep with opened window. Breakfast pretty poor.
For what I have seen, it is too expensive for the services it provides and cannot be considered Best Western.

Thank you for your recent review. I was extremely surprised to read your comments regarding your recent stay at our hotel.

I would like to take this opportunity to assure you that our guests security is of paramount importance to us and we take every step to ensure that this is never compromised in anyway whatsoever. I have spoken with the general manager and who assures me that this matter is being investigated. Hotel policy for late arrivals when a receptionist is unavailable is to contact the night manager via a telephone on the front desk, who will then complete the check-in procedure and make room keys available.

The hotel is a period property with many traditional features for our guests to enjoy and we feel it would be detrimental to the fabulous original Georgian architecture to add a lift to what is only a two storey building. This being said we would always offer porterage to all guests requiring assistance with their luggage or requesting this service. Please accept my sincere apologies if this was not the case during your stay

During this period of exceptionally warm weather we have fans available to help keep our guests cool, this information is readily available in the hotel information folder in each guest room. Should you have requested this service the night manager would have been only too pleased to supply a fan at any point during your stay.

As you can read from previous reviews our guests are usually delighted with our breakfast service which offers both hot and cold items, all of which is locally sourced and includes bacon, sausages, eggs cooked to order, omellets cooked to order, fresh fruit, a selection of cereals and pastries, toast accompanied by preserves, homemade muesli and fish dishes to name a few.

The Leigh Park Hotel has been a member of the Best Western chain for over 15 years and during this time we have never experienced any cause or concern regarding our membership. The hotel has recently undergone the annual Best Western inspection and we are very proud to have achieved one of the highest ratings available for this property type and we strive to improve this year on year. I was disappointed to read that you felt otherwise and I feel that should you have been able to spend a little more time experiencing our hotel, its wonderful gardens and grounds you may have felt somewhat differently.

I would like to invite you to stay with us again and should you require accommodation in the area at any future point please do not hesitate to contact the general manager directly on info@leighparkhotel.eclipse.co.uk and she will be only too happy to assist you with a reservation. Thank you for choosing the BEST WESTERN Leigh Park Hotel and Vineyard and I do hope we have the pleasure in offering you our hospitality once again.

Absolutely TERRIBLE service from this hotel over the weekend.
In all fairness, the hotel is beautiful from what we saw, lovely view & the building itself was stunning.
However, we arrived (4 couples in total) to be told that our booking was for Sunday not Saturday, even though I had the printed confirmation saying Saturday and had emailed them during the week to confirm. Everything came back with positively 100% staying there on Saturday until we went to check in and were told the hotel was fully booked out and we would have to go elsewhere. It was already the evening and we'd driven from London earlier in the day so were tired and wanted a room to sleep in!
The staff were disgustingly unhelpful – with the exception of the new receptionist who tried to help our needs. Geoff the duty manager even told us it would be first come first served (as some other guests hadn’t arrived yet) and while we waited to be checked in they still continued to check others in before us. DON’T tell us that if its NOT true! After waiting around for an hour, still no further on where we would be sleeping as everything in the area was booked out – the Manager finally arrived, didn’t apologise to us, just straight into her office to try and rectify the situation. We were pretty angry and tired, so there were some words exchanged but I don’t think there was any need for the attitude we got from her, she was rude and then even told me that its impossible to book one night on a Sat even though she’d already seen the confirmation and continued to book in others for ONE Night only. Just trying to cover her tracks for THEIR Mistake!
After 90mins and a free bottle of wine from the vineyard from one of the staff who handed it to me and told me it tasted terrible anyway! We were finally booked into a hotel in their chain “5mins” drive away, which in actual fact was 25mins.
The Angel in Chippenham – Much nicer staff, so if you think about booking into Leigh Park, think again – book The Angel, atleast you’ll have somewhere to sleep!
Also, no point in confirming your booking as they will still tell you you’re staying, just like they did to us!
AVOID!

Then down to the bar for drinks on the terrace - again, excellent friendly service. 3 course dinner with the option to sit outside on a beautiful summer's evening. The food was excellent, we really savoured the meal. Coffee, then relaxing out in the gardens as it was so warm. Room v comfortable with a king size bed, huge bathroom, everything you'd want. V good breakfast the next morning. What more could you want in a hotel!?
