“Nice atmosphere, food is not the best”
Reviewed August 31, 2013

Camse there twice: One for a midday Pimm's which was nice to seat outside in the sun, and another time for dinner. The food and bear is ok but the place has a very nice atmosphere!

“Dirty restaurant, bad food”
Reviewed August 27, 2013 via mobile

This was by far the worst food my family and I have had for ages. The place was dirty, not only uncleared very old place settings, but filth on everything - tables, plates, cutlery, place mats, and high chair.

The food was like a reminder of the 80s in the most depressing way, but had the added delight of the old remains of other people's food cooked/burnt into a panini. The rolls for burgers were stale, the chips cold (probably reheated) and the sausages simply gristle (we had ordered kids meals). The actual burgers are very clearly cooked from frozen multipack food.

The setting is good, and they must rely on one time visitors to eat the food. The actual location is made less good by what appears to be a septic tank next to the beer garden.

Avoid. Eat in one of the many locations in Bradford on Avon that rely on their food for their business, not their location.

“meh”
Reviewed August 22, 2013

Should just be a pub with no food service. Food was awful which is just such a shame as location is prime. Could do so much better sad to see a pub dying.
Also the girl over the speaker shouting out food numbers is very annoying! Won't be going back.

“Can do better - it used to”
Reviewed August 16, 2013

We should have been warned - the kitchen's serving hatch now has an 'amusing' sticker about the chef's moods. This is a Bad Sign.

Lovely setting - we arrived on a small boat hired from the Bath & Dundas Canal Company for our wedding anniversary.

Food ordering was chaotic. A woman was tasked with calling out numbers so diners could climb four flights of steps from the riverside to the kitchen (no trays available, of course). It didn't help that she didn't seem to know the difference between 46 and 64! The clever electronic tokens that used to be in use now had numbers written on them corresponding to the yells from on high.

The food is amazingly expensive for what it is. My wife's ham, egg and chips was lukewarm. My microwaved steak and ale stew with a puff pastry top was quite tasty, though the accompanying chips were rather sad. We were hungry, and it admittedly filled the gap

This is a lovely old pub in a superb location. Pity the management can't be bothered to get its act together with regard to the food. It used to be excellent. Now, it's barely adequate.

PS the little cafe on the other side of the canal is very good, for what it is, and quite reasonable.
