“Perfetto!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 1, 2012

We’d like to strongly recommend that you give this restaurant a try. Having eaten here a number of times we’ve found it to be consistently good. The staff are welcoming and helpful. If you enjoy Italian food, the menu offers plenty of choice, including desserts. Portions are generous but very reasonably priced, with both the owner and the chef being adaptable to our requests wherever possible. Though we often choose the good value, tasty house wine, there is a range of other wine, beer and non-alcoholic drink to suit our changing mood. The atmosphere is both relaxed and professional, so we feel as comfortable eating here for a special occasion as for a mid-week meal, either as a couple or part of a larger group. It’s fortunate to have an authentic flavour of Italy in Bradford on Avon. The only drawback is that it does get busy, so if want to be guaranteed a table you need to book in advance.

“Is this a takeaway or a restaurant?”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 28, 2012

If I am going to pay £10 for a pizza, albeit a huge homemade tasty one, I expect to be in a restaurant, in restaurant surroundings with good service. Unfortunately, this was not the case at Pizzeria Amici.
Piles of empty takeaway boxes fill one of the windows, customers were standing next to our table ordering their take aways or collecting pre-ordered ones; a stack of chairs piled in the cramped surroundings; I had to squeeze past a waitress cutting up takeaway pizza to get to the toilets whilst I let another waitress go past me from the kitchen taking somebody's starters. I could cope with all of this if the menu was priced accordingly - but it wasn't.
The dishes on the menu are extremely overpriced for the quality of service and surroundings- why not reduce the portion sizes of everything and reduce the price? I don't want to pay £10 for a single pizza and have to take half of it home with me, I would rather be given a third smaller pizza and pay £7.50. The same for the gnochi at just under £10 and the garlic bread at £4.
You can't fault the quality of the food - it is flavoursome and authentic.
What I can fault are the surroundings and the service.
Our glasses of house wine were not chilled enough. The response from the two waitresses were almost as if it was our fault! Poorly dealt with and that set the tone for the rest of the service. Plesant enough but not professional enough, no sign of being trained how to deal with unexpected situations or how to look after customers properly.
£40.50 for two courses and a glass of house wine is not value for money - If there is a enext time it'll be a takeaway from her rather than sit and have poor service.

“As good as it gets.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 19, 2012

Pizzeria Amici is wonderful. My wife and I have been travelling to Italy every Summer for the last 17 years, and always have a pizza in every town we visit. Pizzas here compare favourably with any we have eaten in Italy. Starters and puddings are equally enjoyable. The restaurant is small and understated, but identifiably Italian. Staff always look as if they are pleased to be working there, and how good it is to find a restaurant in England where children are welcome, which, again, adds to its Italian atmosphere.
We use it regularly, either for takeaways or to have a meal there and, whether we are on our own or in a group, we have never been disappointed. Judging from the full tables and "Riservato" signs, we are not alone in that.

“Average - no better”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 14, 2012

This place is obviously really popular with some people but it's hard to know just what they are so enthusiastic about. Admittedly, I went with a large group - probably not the best way to test a restaurant's finer features - but both the welcome and food were a bit underwhelming. It clearly styles itself as a cosy little pizzeria and, while not unfriendly, there was not much smiling or communication beyond the necessary: our waitress was efficient but her colleague was only just the right side of grumpy.
Our pizzas were OK, with some interesting toppings; though these appeared as a bit of a slung-on mush. However, the house red was good and the final bill very reasonable.
The last thing we wanted was to be greeted with fake Italian 'bonhomia' and over-zealous wielding of an enormous pepper grinder; however, it was hard not to think that Pizzeria Amici is just a bit chuffed with itself and complacent.
