Description: Based in the original site of Bradford on Avon’s post office, The Fat Fowl has got fine local dining sorted. Featuring rustic wooden tables and chairs, muted colours and an abundance of freshly cut flowers, the Fat Fowl is simple yet smart. The proprietors are passionate about provincial food, sourced locally where possible. Daily fresh fish from Brixham, local West Country cheese, homemade chutneys, freshly baked breads and home made desserts are just some of the wonderful things that keep a steady stream of regulars coming back. If that doesn’t convince you, their chef won Chef of the Year 2008 in Wiltshire Life Initiative. For quality in value in the area, the Fat Fowl delivers.

We had booked a table in the tapas bar that I believe is upstairs but as it was mid-week in January and they were quiet we were given a table downstairs in the Fat Fowl restaurant.

The tapas menu is a brief list of dishes so it helps if you're familiar with the Spanish names because English descriptions are mainly absent. We ordered eight dishes between the two of us and thought they were all delicious. This may be too much food for some people but we love our food and it was our first visit so we were keen to sample a good selection.

The atmosphere is relaxed and casual, and the tables nicely spaced. The subdued lighting with candles on the tables is just right. The young waiter was appropriately friendly and attentive.

I thoroughly recommend the tapas. We enjoyed everything that was served to us and will definitely return soon.

“Well worth a stop”
Reviewed December 17, 2012

We stopped here for coffees and toast on 15/12/12. Both were first class and the attention to presentation was very good. Will definitely re-visit when in Bradford on Avon again.

Well placed restaurant in the centre of Bradford on Avon. Park at St. Margarets and walk over. May need to book in high season.
And around Xmas. Great for special occasions ..

“Lovely independent cafe/bistro/tapas bar with excellent food and friendly service.”
Reviewed November 5, 2012 via mobile

The Fat Fowl is tucked away close to Bradford on Avon's pretty bridge. It's a pretty cafe with plenty of space and light, and a waitIng/sofa area with papers and toys for the kids to keep them amused. It's dog-friendly too. The cafe serves a simple menu of locally-sourced dishes (even the buffalo burger was only from Hampshire!) and daily specials. Everything was delicious and the service was friendly and efficient. The children were able to choose from smaller versions of the adult menu or some kids-specific menu items. We had a thoroughly enjoyable lunch and would happily go there again for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Well worth a visit.

“Excellent location, food and service”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

It's always busy here, we visit 2 or 3 times a year. The food and service are great, good cakes & coffee but also very good lunches. Plenty of high chairs & clean baby changing facilities, plus a corner of toys. Dogs are also allowed so the place seems full of locals.
