We have been going to centre parcs for a number of years and this year was terrible. Their basic 'Comfort' accommodation is now VERY expensive and VERY basic - the toilet did not flush properly and a bit smelly, no dvd player, pine needles all over the floor from the previous occupiers christmas tree, black mould in the bath. Our eating out experience was the same very expensive and dissappointing, from the cheap and nasty buffet at the Pancake House Magic Night to the miserable waitress at Cafe Rouge who would not let us sit in the outside area by the christmas lights - not because there were no tables but because there was only 3 of us. The land train service is completely insifficient we were left standing for 40 minutes in the cold and rain (and dark as the light in the train stop shelter did not work) - after the first 20 minute wait the train arrived full and when we spoke to the driver he just drove off saying he was not getting into a conversation about it. We were given a note that there would be a courtesy bus on the change over sunday - after my husband waited 35 minutes he was told by one of the cleaners that he had to call for a pick up. Centre parcs has lost its sparkle for us - probably if we had a over a thousand pounds to spend on their 'better' accommodation closer to the the main plaza rather than paying £450 for 2 nights in basic accommodation that isn't in walking distance to anything we might have enjoyed it. For what we paid for 2 nights, eating out and other activities we could have paid a bit more and had a week abroad in the sun!

We arrived on Sunday 23rd December staying in a 3 bed executive villa in Maple area. The accommodation was comfortable and roomy but what I would describe as 'attention to detail' was lacking and as such we had to call guest services for a few inventory items that were not present. It is appreciated that this is a quite a big site with lots of accommodation but simple housekeeping such as an inventory check when the cleaners are preparing the accommodation on change-over days would I am sure alleviate these small irritating issues. We have been to CentreParcs quite a few times over the years and are aware of the facilities in the smaller lodges so before we arrived we rang Customer Services enquiring about the size of the fridge in the accommodation we were staying in this year. We were advised that there would be either 2 small fridges or 1 large fridge. Upon arrival we discovered that our lodge had only 1 small fridge and a gap under the worktop presumably where the second fridge should have been. Whilst this is not a big issue it again points to attention to detail. It is evident that in some areas the site is starting to look somewhat 'tired' and in need of additional maintenance or improvement. CentreParcs is not the cheapest holiday venue and value for money tempered by the standard of facilities is a major consideration and one that the management should be aware of.

On a positive note, yet again we had a great time such that (in addition to a few short stays over the years) this was our 4th Christmas at Longleat and I suspect will not be our last. The level of service provide by all the staff throughout the site was very high. I can also highly recommend the Strada Italian restaurant but would strongly advise booking your reservation at any of the restaurants via the on-line system in advance of arriving for your stay.

Acommodation, organisation were very good with a wide variety of activies on offer to suit a wide range of interests. Staff were always courteous and helpful. All the cleaners said good morning and were extremely helpful too. Boiler room in the chalet had a leak, this was fixed straight away. Even the squirrels were a joy.
Just a shame it was raining all the time but that's not the fault of the centre. Restaurant was fantastic with excellent food and service. Routes were all clearly maked and the road trains were always on time too.

We had been thinking about going to Center Parcs for a while and decided to take the plunge for a long weekend just before Xmas. As a family, we would normally rent a cottage somwhere nice for holidays so when we looked at the price of a villa, it did come out a little bit more expensive than normal for accomodation BUT - once we had arrived and took the time to find out about everything which is included in that price, we did not feel it was expensive at all!

We have gone from a family made up of twenty-something couples to a family of thirty-something couples with a selection of children. We found that around every corner of Centre Parcs was something else which make us say 'Wow, that's a great idea!'. My sister-in-law greatly appreciated the comfortable rooms for her to feed her 6 month old in which can be found around the park. The swimming paradise was great for our little ones with special areas for toddlers. The pocket parks dotted around are aimed at different ages and there are plenty. We loved the reindeer brought in for Xmas and the decorations around the park. The firework display was brilliant and a ride on the land train was enough to keep our kids happy at any time.

The weather wasn't great for most of our visit but it didn't hamper our enjoyment at all - we just stayed indoors and used umbrellas when moving around the park.

Strada restaurant has a little play area for kids, perfect to grab 5 minutes to eat in peace. And the same goes for the soft play area in sports centre bar, it has areas with big sofas near-by so you can enjoy a coffee and keep an eye on the little ones.

The staff were all so helpful and cheerful (especially the guy at check-in). We did have a small problem while we were there and they put everything right!

I would say that you get out what you put in to a holiday at Center Parcs. The setting and accomodation (and we only stayed in a comfort plus villa) was great, we felt there was plenty to do and feel the site benefits from years of having been there and improving based on feedback. You do need to look at what's on and ensure you benefit from everything they have to offer. One night, we ate with the kids early then put them to bed and left the grandparents in charge and went off to the Swimming paradise! The rapids were good fun in the dark!

The rumours about the Parc Market being overpriced are not true. In fact, get down there early morning for a great selection of fresh pastries. We know that as our kids grow up, they will want to do more activities which will raise our costs but we know it will be worth it! We will be back next year, without a doubt!

Room Tip: Do have a look at the village map before booking and if you do not fancy being in the peace and quie...

Got back yesterday and had a fab time. I agree with the comment about the pool being cold on all the occasions we used it. The changing rooms were not as clean as they could be but the weather was very bad and mud was everywhere.
We were also in fir which was a good walk if the trains were crowded and often were so we walked. The lodge was clean and modern and had more in than listed but we could not work out how to get the hydro bath to work and not sure if it was one and called guest services whom were helpful but were not sure.
We have booked to go back Easter in an adapted lodge near the plaza with my disabled mother and hope all goes well. We last went in 2009 and can say things have improved since then re cleaning and updating.

Room Tip: Try and get your most modern and comfy

We have just returned from spending Christmas at CenterParcs, Longleat.
There were 15 of us on total so we rented 2 4 bedroom lodges in the Pine area. Which is very close to the main plaza area.
We arrived in the late afternoon and check in was hassle free.
Our lodges were spacious and comfortable, the men in our family are all very tall, so space is a must, and we all found that despite having so many of us in each lodge, we never felt cramped in any way.
The lodges were equipped with everything we needed as well as having essential kitchen appliances such as a dish washer, 2 fridges and enough cutlery and crockery.
There were 2 bathrooms/showers and an extra WC.
All the bedrooms were comfortable and we had central heating. The lodges felt safe and secure.
We also had children in our party ranging from toddlers to teenagers, so it was important to ensure there was enough activity to keep them all entertained. We never pre booked any activities before travelling to Center Parcs, but once down there, it was not a problem to book anything, however, we did find a lot of the activites to be on the more expensive side.
There are things to do without having to pay, such as the Sub Tropical Swimming Paradise, which we found fun for all members of the family. It is a combination of an indoor and outdoor pool, however, being Winter, I think it would be a good idea to maybe increase the temperature of the pool to help balance the overall temperature. I would definitely recommend visiting the Swimming Paradise whilst there.
The forest is a great place for walks, cycling and to have a look at any sights such as the lakes, although it did rain for the majority of the time we were there, it did not put us off our break. I believe a holiday is what you make it as well as the people you are with.
There are plenty of restaurants to eat in and shops to shop in, but we didn't fancy any of them, instead we made full use of our kitchens!
If you do need any essentials, there is an on site supermarket, which, being on site, we found the prices slightly on the higher side of what we would usually pay in a supermarket, so instead, we managed to locate a high street supermarket within the area, and bought any essentials there which we didn't bring for the Christmas period. It was only a 10 minute drive and proved more economical. There is a petrol station there too.
Overall, we all enjoyed our Center Parcs experience and as a first visit, it was very positive.
If there were slight aspects we would improve, it would probably be, for the central heating to be maintained so the lodges are warmer and maybe the prices of activities and shops to not be so expensive.
We will definitely return, but next time, we would like to try it in the summer.

Room Tip: Any room close to the plaza is great so your walk does not take as long. Otherwise you will have to...
