What beautiful colours in the trees this time of year. Have got some lovely photos.

Kids loved going on an adventure around the lake.

Nice soup on the shop at a very busy time.

Thank Leon H

We visited at half term and expected it to be busy but there were loads of parking assistants to direct us to one of the overflow car parks and it appeared that the parking was being really well managed to avoid 'over using' the boggy grass areas nerer to the house - still only a 5 min walk to the entrance though. Lakeside walks are well documented (beautiful) and despite heavy recent rain the paths weren't slippery. A bit surprised that some selfish groups were able to 'take over' two of the follies & grotto for an indoor picnic hence restricting access for the rest. The house wasn't at all busy, volunteers were all very friendly and helpful but not a great deal to see as there is no kitchen and no upper floor access (lots of paintings & some interesting furniture & books though) - half an hour is ample for a house tour. A really enjoyable day out.

We visited on a bit of a dullish Monday late October, but at least the rain held off & sun did come out to enhance the colour of the leaves & add some reflections in the lake

Most have already described Stourhead, so i will not seek to add to their words, but if you have never been do try it, you will recognise some of the views from countless calendars.

The paths were a bit muddy, and there are some steps which the less able may find awkward, but nothing was limiting on our visit

Do not go without your camera and some stout shoes

The Spread Eagle pub nearby can get very busy so if time permits, go to the nearby village of Mere, two pubs serving food there, plus tearoom & chip shop, only a couple of miles away

Stourhead came to our attention after appearing on BBC breakfast t.v. in 2009 . Better late than never goes the saying and as its had more of the same very recently the site was throng on Saturday (27th). We were directed to an overflow car park which was rapidly filling up at 11:30 am so we made the decision to have a quick peek in the house as this was our 4th visit , so as to avoid the crowds . However with a site as vast as Stourhead there was never really any chance of having the visit spoilt although the shear number of people taking photographs of the gardens and lake probably led to more than one grumble as it was impossible to walk around without getting in the way of a snapper . The amount of very proffesional equipment on show made us aware of the importance of the gardens as a whole. The colours on view and the scale made our visit worthwile and it will remain an annual treat for us.
